Medical Misdiagnosis: A WARNINGā ļø
Medical Misdiagnosis is the #3 killer of people in the USA. Fact. Daily, I receive information from people of all ages that are medically misdiagnosed, and treated for that wrong diagnosis; only to feel worse, and not get better.
Why are these instances increasing, daily? Why are physicians turning their work over to those who may or may not be qualified? Why are medical records not current or accurate? Why are physicians taking such little time to resolve health issues, truly getting to the bottom of cause, and not just treatment of symptoms? Great questions. I think if most were honest, they would tell the truth: Healthcare is a great big corporation, focused on profit over human health.
My Story: Dangerous Diagnosisā ļø
When I was around 37, my eyes were first opened to false medical misdiagnosis.
It was a work day, so I was up early in the shower when it happened. I thought I was having a heart attack, but nothing in my health history would agree. Sure, my dad died at 55 years old of a heart attack, but my life, and daily habits were completely different.
As the pain shot across my chest, every time I took a breath, it had to be something serious. So, I got out of the shower and called a friend for help. She took me to an ER, and after all day undergoing tests, every test that was available, nothing. Nothing was wrong with me, but the pain persisted.
What happened next was a little unsettling, but I accepted it, not knowing what else to do. The ER doc created a pluralisy diagnosis, prescribing a high dose of anti inflammatory. But, I didn't have pluralisy. They admitted it was a diagnosis simply for treatment and insurance purposes. Not even kidding.
I went home with the meds, and got a lot of rest. In two weeks, it was happening again. I called a friend who was a holistic massage therapist, and she told me to come in. She described a procedure that would pull all my tight and restricted "guts", back into place, as with stress, they constrict and move up into the rib cage. It hurt, bad, but it worked. No more pain.
So what was wrong with me? Anxiety. It was a panick attack, and once I realized what was happening, I worked hard to make sure it never happened again.
Did anyone in the ER that day even consider stress, anxiety? No. And today, they would either do the same, sending someone home with a false diagnosis, or tell them, "there's nothing wrong".
There are many doctors in the business to help people, but their employers are focused on profit, period, so they diagnosis, and treat, according to what will be paid by insurance. If they are wrong, oh well. Someone else's job to handle that.
Sad, but true. I have personally received word from ten (10) different people who were misdiagnosed in the last two weeks.
As long as Insurance companies are allowed to dictate care, our healthcare system will continue to put profit over human health.
