Good Monday Morning! As we approach either the Happiest Time of the Year or in some cases the most depressing part of the year, let's take a look at some ways to handle this rocky road. If you are a senior that has a lot of close family that gets together and celebrates, count your blessings and good times. Other seniors have spouses, friends and other family members no longer with us. I can understand this as a few decades ago my parent's died shortly before Christmas some years apart. So yes, that good old depression can come out of nowhere when we least expect it. Some years go by unaffected and then there is a year here and there that it hits hard. The sun can be shinning, people laughing and yet all we see is darkness. A way I have found to naviage these times is to take some time and breathe, sit quietly and start to remember the good times. Get out of the house and go do an activity that brightens your thoughts. That might be getting together with friends, making a few phone calls or something as simple as a walk around the block. Try to avoid any spur of the moment shopping spree that we most often regret in a day or so. Or any other rash and sudden decision like selling the house, getting rid of the car or in some cases surrendering a beloved pet. Those dark times are going to go away in a few weeks or even days. Get a handle on it, plan ahead, get a few new puzzles or craft ideas to take you mind off this time of the year. And if all else fails, get to the Doctors office for some temporary anxiety help. All this will pass, the winter blues will go away and again we see the sunshine as we have that second cup of coffee.
