After becoming cast in her stall, a client's horse was transported to an equine hospital, presenting with severe right hip swelling and lameness. "The ultrasound examination confirmed a fracture of the right tuber ischii and extensive damage to the semitendinosus and semimembranosus muscles." The video is her first of many cryotherapy sessions at a layup facility.
The four-week regimen of complete stall rest, to be followed by a gradual introduction to 10 minutes of hand grazing from weeks five to eight. Reevaluation at 8 weeks will determine future protocol for this gorgeous mare.
