Brace Yourself for Tiptoe Kai-Guy

Brace Yourself for Tiptoe Kai-Guy To keep readers informed of this new upcoming children's book series featuring a disabled child wearing leg braces as the main character.

There are so few fun books featuring children wearing orthotics, so we were inspired by our own son to change that!

I remember the very first time our son successfully stepped OVER an object without holding on someone/something. He was probably 2.5 years old. Balance has always been a challenge for him.

We have a recurring theme of "HOPPING, CLIMBING and ZOOMING" in our story. All 3 of these movements have been a challenge at times for our son, and he's overcome so many challenges!

Please share with us which one of these movements is your biggest challenge in the comments below! I'll be sure to share it all with Tiptoe Kai-Guy so that he knows he's not the only one who struggled with any of those things. 🦸🏽‍♂️

(Just a quick, rough, incomplete sketch shown below)

We're working hard through the process, which includes highs and lows. Sometimes we leave little hints! 😉🦸🏽‍♂️

Writing and illustrating your own book is a heck of a lot of work! Thankfully my husband and I make a great team and balance each other well! We always work together on each detail as his vision needs to align with mine so that the illustrations communicate the same messages I intend to communicate through my text. This is no easy feat, but also so unique of an experience because we understand each other. So our team work is going to make the dream work, and we're holding hands through this to make it happen!

There's no AI, there's no "professional insight," and there's no past publising experience here, it's just a mom and dad who have experienced all the extensive physical therapy, watched our son not be able to do something other kids his age can easily do, watched him fall so many times, heard the screams when his legs were hurting while adjusting to braces, battled a preschooler who refused to cooperate to put his braces on, and felt the anxiety and worry when he made efforts to conceal his braces and tried to "look as normal as possible."

•This book is for our orthotic-wearing kids. I hope your child can see himself/herself throughout this book.
•This book is for the parents of orthotic-wearing children. I hope you learn some specific tips to better advocate for your child.
•This book is for other children. I hope you learn how to recognize similarities you share with others more than the differences.
•This book is for anyone else. I hope you understand and feel the perspective of orthotic-wearing children and essentially "walk a mile in their shoes." 🥾

We are creating this book from our hearts, for your heart, and we are grateful for your support.

There's that rubber band again! 😉

We have poured so much thought and creativity into every detail of this book, and it is rich in recurring themes which our readers will hopefully identify. One of the most obvious themes includes an analogy of a simple rubber band. A rubber band will be part of each story of Tiptoe Kai-Guy for reasons to discover for our readers. Stay tuned!

Dad is working on the format and layout of our pages and also initial sketches.

Any ideas why a rubber band might be part of Tiptoe Kai-Guy's stories?

Welcome to our page! We are parents of an amazing child challenged with a physical disability which requires him to wear leg braces to help him walk. As we prepared to send him to Kindergarten, we had had more concerns than the typical set of parents because of his unique challenges. We wanted to purchase some children's books for the new Kindergarten teacher to read to the class to help introduce the uniqueness of our son's extra gear, and just didn't find much. Books that were fun, informational and inclusive featuring a child with leg-braces just didn't exist. Five years later, we are working on publishing a fun, engaging, and helpful children's book, written by Mom and illustrated by Dad and our disabled son. We are well into the process, but it's a lengthy process, and we still have a lot to do! We are super excited about this, so be sure to follow this page for updates and release! We'd love for you to incorporate "Brace Yourself for Tiptoe Kai-Guy" in your library at home, at the office or in your classroom. Thank you for your support!
