Writing and illustrating your own book is a heck of a lot of work! Thankfully my husband and I make a great team and balance each other well! We always work together on each detail as his vision needs to align with mine so that the illustrations communicate the same messages I intend to communicate through my text. This is no easy feat, but also so unique of an experience because we understand each other. So our team work is going to make the dream work, and we're holding hands through this to make it happen!
There's no AI, there's no "professional insight," and there's no past publising experience here, it's just a mom and dad who have experienced all the extensive physical therapy, watched our son not be able to do something other kids his age can easily do, watched him fall so many times, heard the screams when his legs were hurting while adjusting to braces, battled a preschooler who refused to cooperate to put his braces on, and felt the anxiety and worry when he made efforts to conceal his braces and tried to "look as normal as possible."
•This book is for our orthotic-wearing kids. I hope your child can see himself/herself throughout this book.
•This book is for the parents of orthotic-wearing children. I hope you learn some specific tips to better advocate for your child.
•This book is for other children. I hope you learn how to recognize similarities you share with others more than the differences.
•This book is for anyone else. I hope you understand and feel the perspective of orthotic-wearing children and essentially "walk a mile in their shoes." 🥾
We are creating this book from our hearts, for your heart, and we are grateful for your support.
There's that rubber band again! 😉
