Today, at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital we were proud to recognize Camilla Girard, RN with the Great Catch Award.

During patient care in the Emergency Department, Camilla sent a lactic acid lab sample for a patient. When she received the critical lab result back, her clinical assessment skills told her that this lab value did not match the patient’s presentation.

Camilla insisted that she would draw another sample and resend for analysis. That result came back within normal range.

This pause to think about how her patient presented and appeared is a very important nursing skill that encourages the safety of our patients, especially in a busy ED.

According to the &LymphomaSociety, about every three minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma – the most common types of blood cancer. Blood cancer is caused by DNA mutations within blood cells. In most cases, this is linked to factors beyond our control, like age, ethnicity and family history. School may be underway, but there’s still time for one last camping adventure. Keep your family safe with these smart camping tips for kids:

1. Buddy up. Even bathroom breaks need a partner.
2. Set boundaries. Mark clear campsite limits so kids know where it’s safe to explore.
