šŸ’› On This Grateful Weekend Day... In honor of tomorrow, we’re especially grateful for the heartfelt Google reviews our patients take time to share. Your words uplift our team and help guide others in selecting the retina specialist that’s right for them, with trust and confidence.

Dr. Matthew Cunningham is known for his warm approach and expert care. Thank you, Cheree, for sharing:
ā€œDr. Cunningham walked into the exam room with a big smile and a handshake. He reviewed my chart and reports and asked me what my concerns were. I asked him many details about a procedure I was interested in. He took the time and didn’t walk to the door with his hand on the doorknob until all my questions were answered. He even drew a picture to help me understand. I felt so special. He is the type of doctor people want to work with as a team.ā€

Dr. Cunningham’s dedication to personalized expert patient care, clear communication, and genuine compassion exemplifies the Florida Retina Institute standard, care with excellence and heart.

Florida Retina Institute’s priority is preserving and protecting vision. Earlier today, at our Daytona Beach location, Dr. Campagnoli’s patient was receiving a sight-saving injection to treat branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO)—a condition that can cause sudden vision changes due to blocked blood flow in the retina.

These treatments help reduce swelling, improve vision, and prevent further damage. If you or a loved one notices blurry or distorted vision, don’t wait—early diagnosis and treatment can make all the difference.

A Legacy of Care, Wisdom, and Heart in Every Step.
Some paths are chosen. Others are lived from the very beginning.

For Dr. Jonathan Staman and Dr. Tomas Moreno, growing up alongside fathers who dedicated their lives to restoring sight and nurturing hope shaped not just their careers, but their character.

Dr. James Staman and Dr. Jonathan Staman
Florida Retina Institute was founded in 1979 by Dr. James Staman, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for excellence in retina care. His son, Dr. Jonathan Staman, joined the practice in August 2013, continuing that journey with a heart full of purpose and a mind shaped by experience. Both share a love for their families, a sweet tooth, and unwavering loyalty to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Their warmth and personality shine through in every patient interaction.

Dr. Raul Moreno and Dr. Tomas Moreno
Dr. Raul Moreno joined Dr. James Staman at Florida Retina Institute in 1991, bringing with him an unwavering commitment to patient care shaped by his Puerto Rican heritage and service in the U.S. Air Force. He still very much enjoys coming to practice, offering his soft-spoken nature and gentle touch to every interaction. His son, Dr. Tomas Moreno, joined the practice in August 2019. Fluent in Spanish and shaped by his own service at the Department of Veteran Affairs, he continues a tradition rooted in heritage, family, and a shared passion for giving back to the communities they serve.

This year marks 46 years of Florida Retina Institute. It is a milestone that honors the legacy of care, the wisdom passed down through generations, and the heart that continues to guide every step forward.

This is more than a shared profession. It is a shared promise to treat every patient like family, to honor the legacy of those who came before, and to continue delivering compassionate, personalized expert care with excellence and heart.

Florida Retina Institute's August Image of the Month
Diagnosis: Torpedo Maculopathy

This unique image, submitted by Nisarg Joshi, MD, highlights a rare congenital condition called torpedo maculopathy. Found in the temporal macula, this lesion is typically harmless and often discovered during routine eye exams.

While it may look unusual, torpedo maculopathy is not related to macular degeneration and usually doesn’t affect vision. No treatment is typically needed—just regular monitoring and imaging.

Good morning from Dr. Mavrofrides and one of his Orlando patients. Happy Birthday and heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Gorman! She recently celebrated her 90th birthday—and looked absolutely wonderful doing so!

She is not only a cherished patient, but also someone who played a meaningful role in our story. Mrs. Gorman was the operating room nurse when Dr. Elias Mavrofrides (Dr. Mav) was training at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.

Dr. Mav is honored to be part of Mrs. Gorman’s medical care, and this moment reminds us of the lasting connections formed through care, mentorship, and shared purpose.

Together, we celebrate the people who continue to inspire us.
