🌟 Staff Feature: Jack 🌟

Meet Jack, our friendly Concierge Service Representative at La Posada! Jack has been part of our team for 2.5 years, and a typical day for him includes arriving on time, greeting residents, having wonderful conversations, and assisting wherever needed.

What Jack enjoys most about his job? “Spending time with the residents and fellow associates.” One of his most memorable moments was helping a resident fix her car so she could make it to an appointment — seeing her face light up made his day!

A few fun facts about Jack:
🥁 He plays drums and enjoys drawing.
🚗 Outside of work, he loves working on cars and driving.

This photo captures Susan at 30 years old, boating down the Musconetcong River in New Jersey. She remembers cruising on a beautiful day with her soon-to-be husband, Curtis, feeling completely at peace. If she could step back into that day, she says she would love every minute of it.

When asked what advice she’d give her younger self in the photo, Susan shared: “Take advantage of every happy moment.”

🍎✨ La Posada Residents Celebrate Rosh Hashanah ✨🍯

Residents at La Posada observed Rosh Hashanah with a meaningful service marking the start of the Jewish New Year. The celebration included the sounding of the shofar and the ritual of Tashlich, symbolically casting away sins into the water.

This special gathering provided a time for reflection, renewal, and hope for the year ahead. We wish our community, families, and friends a Shana Tova U’Metuka — a sweet and happy New Year.

🌟 Resident of the Week: Susan Sample 🌟

Meet Susan Sample, born in Lowell, Massachusetts and raised in New Jersey.

Susan’s first job in college was working in the men’s department at Ohrbachs, and she went on to a career as an administrator in computer software and hardware engineering.

Some of Susan’s favorite memories include her grandmother’s famous homemade apple strudels and the joy of spending time with loved ones. Her hobbies include reading, tennis, golf, and bridge.

Here at La Posada, Susan loves Happy Hour — especially dancing — and her favorite memory is beating her friend Richard at Scrabble.

Her advice for younger generations? “Enjoy every day and be loving.”

🌟 Staff Feature: Ryan Gill 🌟

Meet Ryan Gill, our Independent Living Lead Activities Assistant & Entertainment Coordinator. Ryan has been a part of the La Posada family for 9 years (celebrating his anniversary on February 1st!).

When asked what he enjoys most about his job, Ryan shared: “Engaging with residents and getting them to do more activities.” One of his most memorable moments at La Posada was forming the La Posada Chorus, which encouraged residents — even those with dementia or stage fright — to step out of their comfort zone and sing with joy.

A few fun facts about Ryan:
🎭 He loves comedy.
⛳ He enjoys playing golf.

We’re so grateful for Ryan’s energy, creativity, and dedication to making La Posada such a vibrant community!

📸 Throwback Thursday 📸

This week’s throwback takes us back to when Marty Weiss was just 25 years old, teaching at New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn. This photo originally appeared in the New York Times in the New Jersey Opinions section, highlighting one of the very first s*x-ed classes in the country.

Marty remembers those days as challenging but meaningful — teaching coed classes on sensitive topics like abortion during a time when the subject was new and controversial. He recalls feeling uneasy, knowing every word mattered.

When asked what advice he’d give his younger self in this photo, Marty laughed and said: “Get a haircut.”

Looking back, Marty reflects on a career he truly enjoyed — teaching swimming, physical education, and s*x education, later becoming an athletic director and then assistant principal. He proudly dedicated 35 years to teaching and shaping young lives.

🎉🏅 La Posada Olympics – A New Tradition Begins! 🏅🎉

La Posada just hosted its very first Olympics, and what an incredible three days it was!

Residents were grouped into teams based on their buildings – Mallorca and the Villas, Valencia, and Seville – and competed in a fun lineup of games including Track, Co****le, Hit the Penny, Bridge, Rummikub, Bingo, Scrabble, Trivia, Wii Bowling, and Jelly Bean: Name That Flavor.

This friendly neighbor vs. neighbor competition brought out laughter, smiles, hugs, and plenty of team spirit. ❤️

A special shoutout to Marty Weiss, the mastermind behind it all! What started as a 2 a.m. idea turned into a community-wide event with over 104 residents competing for their team’s glory. With the incredible support of Lauren Weiss, who handled all the behind-the-scenes details, Marty’s dream became a reality.

We wrapped up the festivities today with an inspiring speech from guest speaker Mike Gansell before announcing our big winners... 🥁

🏆 Congratulations to Mallorca and the Villas! 🏆

The games ended in a standing ovation — for every team that came together in the spirit of fun and friendship, and for Marty, whose vision made it all possible. 💙

What a way to celebrate community, laughter, and connection here at La Posada. Here’s to many more Olympic Games ahead! ✨
