If you’ve ever heard the term saline sonogram and wondered what it means, you’re not alone! This simple, outpatient procedure plays an important role in preparing a gestational carrier for embryo transfer. 💛

A saline sonogram (also known as an SHG or SIS) is a special type of ultrasound where sterile saline is gently introduced into the uterus. This allows fertility specialists to clearly view the uterine cavity and check for anything that could interfere with implantation—like polyps, fibroids, or scar tissue.

✨ Why it matters:
Before an embryo is transferred, doctors want to make sure the uterine environment is healthy and ready for pregnancy. The saline sonogram gives them a detailed look to help ensure the best possible outcome.

For many surrogates, this is one of the early steps in the medical screening process—and while it might sound intimidating, it’s usually quick and low discomfort, and gives valuable insight that helps ensure a safe and smooth journey ahead. 💫
