🐴Healing through Horses: Equine Therapy for Survivors🐴
Equine Therapy offers survivors a gentle, safe-space to connect with their bodies, peers, and with the horses! Equine-Assisted Therapy is a trauma-informed experience that promotes healing and encourages grounding through the guided interactions with the peaceful presence of the horses. Through mutual trust and mindful interactions, the horses help mirror emotions and support survivors in rebuilding trust and confidence. There is no riding involved, just meaningful connections with these gentle creatures.

Fun fact: today is Bill W's sobriety date - The date of his LAST last drink in 1934.
The holidays can be ROUGH for those in recovery, and for those struggling with their relationship to alcohol.
1) Have an escape plan to excuse yourself.
2) “No” is a complete sentence.
3) Play out the tape. That drink won’t solve anything.
And of course — get yourself to a meeting, phone a friend, and stay connected to other folks in recovery.
And if you THINK you might want to change your relationship with alcohol, today is a great day to do that.
_____
Want to support your friends in recovery this holiday season?
1) If someone says no to a drink, they don’t need to provide you with a reason.
2) Always offer as many, and as interesting non-alcoholic options as you have alcoholic drinks.
3) The way you speak about public figures who struggle with alcohol / addiction isn't heard by the public figures - but your loved one who you never knew has a problem DID hear it.

My professional interests include working with adolescents and adults on various concerns and life difficulties. Of interest to me are identity development, sexuality, gender, trauma, sexual offending, and addictions. The most important aspect for me is to make a connection with others and build a strong alliance in order to work together towards a more fulfilling future. My research focuses on the areas of gender non-conformity, sexual culture, and supervision.
Approach to Therapy
I consider my approach to Cognitive Behavioral with a Humanistic flare. My techniques are primarily Mindful-based CBT; however, I tend to be client led and less directive. In addition, meaning making and exploration of schemas and belief systems can be a primary area of importance.
Approach to Supervision
My primary focus in supervision is to assist in personal growth and development into the role of counselor. I work from a process/feminist approach, with attention to developmental level, implementing interventions from various psychotherapy approaches if necessary.
Approach to Wellness
The most important part to wellness is balance. I achieve this by making efforts to balance my time and energy between family, school, work, and social areas of my life. My favorite self-care activities are playing with my children/husband, baking cupcakes, laying out in the sun, knitting, and Netflix.
