🌷 Spring Isn’t Just a Season — It’s a Time for Growth! 🌷
Just like flowers begin to bloom in the spring, children can continue to grow, learn, and develop new skills with the right support. Progress doesn’t always happen overnight, but with consistency, encouragement, and evidence-based strategies, meaningful change happens over time.
At Behavior Gurus, LLC, our ABA therapy services help children build communication, social, and daily living skills that support long-term success. Whether your child is just beginning services or continuing their journey, every step forward matters.
🌱 Let this spring be a season of new opportunities and growth for your child.

You can’t just force your child to respect you. They learn what respect looks and sounds like from you. If you give them respect, then they may reciprocate, but respect should not be conditional, same as love.

Respect that is forced is usually based on fear.

Do you find yourself getting caught up on this idea? Do you find your desire for respectful behaviour and communication gets in the way of connecting with your child, at times?
Our perception of respect can often be a barrier to connection. Once you stop feeling offended by your child’s behaviour, it’s easier to help them learn new strategies for communicating.

Sometimes it’s more that our child’s behaviour makes us feel triggered in some way and we need to process that trigger, in order to respond, instead of react.

In my book Finding Your Calm: A Responsive Parent’s Guide to Self-Regulation and Co-Regulation, I discuss how our perception of respect can often be a barrier to connection. Once you stop feeling offended by your child’s behaviour, it’s easier to help them learn new strategies for communicating.

This book combines my knowledge of child development, brain science and trauma to offer parents a unique resource that includes lots of exercises, reflections, and insights. This book is written with the intention of supporting parents in developing the skills they need to co-regulate with their child and meet their emotional needs. It is based on my own healing journey, through parenting and so it is written with compassion for parents and children. We were all children once and that little person still lives inside us, trying to be seen and heard. Parenting often makes that connection to our little selves, hard to ignore.

Parents who are able to regulate their own emotions do more than manage behavior in the moment. They shape the emotional climate of their home.

When you pause instead of reacting, breathe instead of escalating, and respond with intention, you are teaching your child what safety feels like in their body. Children are constantly scanning us for cues. They learn from our tone, our facial expressions, and the way we handle stress. Before they can regulate themselves, they rely on us to co regulate with them. Your calm becomes the template their nervous system begins to follow.

If you did not grow up with that steadiness, choosing to learn it now is one of the most powerful forms of generational healing. Regulation is not about perfection or never feeling triggered. It is about noticing, repairing, and returning to center. Every time you do that, you are modeling resilience and responsibility.

The ability to stay grounded in hard moments teaches your child that big feelings are manageable and that connection does not disappear when emotions rise. That kind of emotional safety builds confidence, trust, and long term resilience.

Peace in a home does not happen by accident. It is practiced, modeled, and passed down. ā¤ļø

Kindness is not something our children learn from lectures. It is something they experience and then mirror.

They are watching how we speak when we are frustrated, how we respond when we are tired, and how we repair when we make mistakes. They notice the tone in our voice, the patience in our posture, and the way we treat them when their behavior feels inconvenient.

They are also watching how we treat other people. They see how we speak to our partner during disagreement, how we respond to a server who gets an order wrong, and how we talk about teachers, family members, and even strangers when they are not present. From these everyday interactions, they are learning what it means to treat others with love and respect. They are forming their understanding of empathy, dignity, and how to care for people even when it would be easier not to.

Modeling kindness means holding boundaries without humiliation. It means correcting without shaming. It means choosing words that protect someone’s dignity, even when you are upset. It means showing that disagreement does not require disrespect and that strength does not require harshness.

When children consistently experience and observe this kind of steadiness, they internalize it. They learn that love can be firm, that respect can be consistent, and that kindness is a way of being, not just a reaction.

Raising kind humans begins with the way we show up in both the hardest moments and the smallest, ordinary ones. ā¤ļø
