Changing Spaces "Alaska" Chapter

Did you know that Homer Airport has a height adjustable adult changing table? This happened because someone advocated. It wasn’t me so I take no credit. I’m just happy to share the information.
Fairbanks airport has asked for input for improvements and I will share the information if anyone is interested. I submitted my thoughts on why they should include a height adjustable adult changing table and also expressed that a ceiling lift would be beneficial also.
I was encouraged when they emailed a response that they are working to include this in near future. Possibly to have it included and finished by 2027. It might seem like a long time, but I’m excited that they are making progress and they appear to be listening to this need.

Awareness day is coming up. But it isn’t just about a day to raise awareness. For some folks not having a safe space to take care of toileting needs in our community can, and does keep them isolated. They are limited. They remain in soiled clothing if our communities have nothing more than a bathroom floor to change on. They are limited on community activities by time constraints to avoid a need for a safe changing space in order to avoid toileting accidents. They are limited on nutrition and fluids to avoid toileting needs when in the community. Or they are limited to staying home as their easiest choice. If this bothers you, please help raise awareness to this need. Speak up for those who need it.
