Science class from a hospital bed 🔬✨

Our research continues on how virtual reality can bring science lessons to kids who are hospitalized and learning from their beds. With a VR headset on, we can turn a child’s hospital room into a coral reef.

Our virtual reality science lessons help kids stay curious, connected, and learning, even during long or difficult hospital stays.

Marcos Rojas Pino was named 2025 Technology Innovator of the Year by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and recognized onstage at IMSH 2026 for his work on Clinical Mind AI.

Developed in collaboration with the Stanford Chariot Program and the Stanford Graduate School of Education, Clinical Mind AI reflects our shared belief that emerging technology should be rigorous, educationally grounded, and relevant to real clinical practice.

Kids can slide down snowy mountains or explore an Arctic wonderland while catching gems, all controlled with eye gaze. It is a powerful distraction during procedures like blood draws, cast removals, and IV placements.

“I didn’t even feel the shot!” Pebbles the Penguin and the Chariot team were thrilled to support kids (and their parents!) at the recent Menlo Park community vaccine clinic hosted by the school district. Chariot volunteers brought time, tech, and a little bit of magic: Parents witnessed our VR and tablet-based games soothe their worried kids.

We’re so grateful to continue working with the Menlo Park City School District and District Nurse Jemelian to help our community stay healthy and vaccinated. Special thanks to the Stanford Medicine medical students who volunteered their time to support kids during their shots, and Stanford undergraduates for running the carnival.

Our community left fully vaccinated and happy!
