A huge heartfelt congratulations to one of our post-op ACL patients for committing to play soccer internationally at Rome City Institute!

At every follow up, It was incredible to see Lizzie’s dedication and commitment too her rehabilitation process. It was obvious she had a passion for soccer & was going to do anything to get back on the field at a high level!

ACL Graft Options: Quadriceps Tendon Autograft
•
When reconstructing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in surgery, it is always important to consider what the best graft type might be for the individual.
•
The Quad Tendon is a robust graft option. An advantage of the graft is the consistency and predictability of its size and length when being harvested. The graft can be taken with or without a bone block from the patella.
•
Biomechanical studies regarding the quad tendon shows an increased load to failure for the quad autograft. Studies have also supported equivalent stability and functional outcomes compared to patellar tendon grafts.
•
Harvesting of this graft has low donor site morbidity and does not have a significant impact on overall quadriceps strength post graft harvest.
•
Compared to other graft options, there is less literature reporting long term outcomes following ACL reconstruction utilizing the quadriceps tendon graft.
•
This is a great graft option for revision procedures, patients with tendinitis at the patellar tendon, and patients who’s sports and professions would be affected with anterior knee pain associated with donor site morbidity of other graft options, among other indications.
