John came to Encompass Health following a stroke that required a portion of his skull to be removed. When he first arrived, he required total assistance for mobility and activities of daily living. His main goal was to return home to his two daughters and wife. He frequently shared motivational speeches, and enjoyed time in the therapy gym. We are proud to report that Tony rang the bell at Encompass Health signaling his discharge to return home. While Tony isn't quite ready to return to rugged overnight hiking adventures, he plans to embark on shorter adventures near his home and encourages others to do the same. "Everybody should do a random adventure," he said. "We could all use that moment of gratitude to appreciate what we're capable of. Hollie Grant arrived at Encompass Health after a bacterial meningitis diagnosis left her with amputations and skin grafts. Thanks to inpatient rehabilitation and the support of her friends and family, Hollie was able to walk independently with prosthetics! After her experience at Encompass Health, Hollie changed her undergraduate major from criminal justice to occupational therapy, and went on to receive her master's degree in occupational therapy! She is now a case manager for Encompass Health.

Jody Basye came to Encompass Health after suffering a stroke while coaching young students. His main goal was to return to what matters most - coaching. He worked hard to regain his strength and constantly challenged himself physically and mentally. April's story: Defeating death to make history
In September 2022, we shared the incredible story of patient April Ballentine. Paralyzed from the chest down, she made history as the first patient in Kentucky to use a ReWalk - More Than Walking exoskeleton, a wearable piece of technology that allows patients to stand and walk with the support of a body brace and robotic legs. At the time of her interview, April shared her next goal: to walk her daughter down the aisle at her wedding. We are excited to share these photos of her doing just that! She’s truly an inspiration, and we are honored to be part of her journey.
