What does it mean when I say, "Know the architecture of your anxiety?"

Four ways our body really harnesses our attention…

🌽 We can’t chew.
🛋️ We can’t sit.
🏃🏼‍♀️ We can’t exercise.
💻 We can’t concentrate.

👉🏻 The nervous system only has so much available movement.

👉🏻 If we think of our nerves like a rubber band… they need really good viscoelasticity which means a really good spring to them!

👉🏻 The longer we put tension on the nervous system, it tries to protect itself by retracting, pulling up-n-away or shortening.

This will show up as a:
🚶‍♀️ Shortened stride
🥤 Inability to open one’s mouth fully
🧘🏼 Inability to bend at the hip-knee to sit comfortably
💆🏼‍♀️ Makes it more difficult to complete work or home tasks without the head or neckache.

Listen-n-look 👀 for physical cues that your nervous system is tightening. It can be a slow, mysterious or unnoticeable process.

Chronic pain steals hours from your day, your week and your life!

Chronic pain, in my world as a physical therapist for 20+ years, is misunderstood pain.

When I speak of mindset, thoughts, habits or pain patterns when my clients are looking for quick external fixes...most are skeptical and frustrated. When they feel the difference, hope begins to rise!

As they say, "The Proof is in the Pudding!"

Our mindset has the capacity to destroy our real physical alignment (aka posture) without us knowing it. Taking time to understand and acknowledge our focus, perspective and response to our day is the MOST PIVOTAL COMPONENT to understanding and releasing chronic and misunderstood pain. Happy Friday Everyone!!

Here is my (learned again) Lesson of the Week:

AVOID wanting it more than the other person!

Do you ever find yourself wanting a change more for the other person than they want it?

This situation becomes trying to control an uncontrollable.

For me...my breathing becomes shallower, my entire system becomes tighter, and my level of angst increases in the form of worry or discouragement.

Wanting "it" means, I hope clients hear my recommendations, insight, value and relatability of the content for the good of their health.

Yet, is it?

Or is it a discussion of, "Am I enough? or Am I worthy?"

I find this lesson to be on repeat for me....and I even teach this on a weekly basis. Ugh.

Step 1: Ask first. Ask if someone would like insight on a certain topic within a conversation.
Step 2: Offer the insight, information and recommendations.
Step 3: Release yourself of the outcome.

Everyone is on their one learning journey and it is true, sometimes we need to hear something 3-4 times before we have an "AHA" moment.

In the meantime, my recommendation when offering information is to breath and think, think and breath.

When you continue to , you are monitoring your own physical, cellular response to a conversation and not allowing your worth or am I enough, to get muddled in the conversation.

Your worth is not dependent on...one's response to your recommendations or insight!

Backing out the day! How often do you ask, “What triggers my pain?”

Here are a few examples, THREE easy steps and then, get your ULTIMATE GUIDE to take action from the inside out!

🌳 Overactive thoughts, keeping you confused and overwhelmed…away from your focus on who you want to be, working towards your goals or staying grounded in a life you want to create!

🌪️ Being pulled into multiple, strong emotions in relationship to daily conversations, events or circumstances.

😳 Lack of quality sleep. Overwhelmed by a schedule that you know needs to change. Staying up too late which limits the brain time to transition into sleep.

😮‍💨 Shallow breathing due to increased anxiety…wishing for an outcome that is not in your control.

🧁 Academic stress…reaching for sugary foods that inflames your gut. Cortisol + Sugar = Pain

All are real life events!!

What to do????

What do you NOTICE when your body is trying to get your attention…

When it REALLY requests your attention…this happens:

🍎 Chewing and enjoying a mealtime becomes increasingly difficult.

🎥 Prolonged sitting is not tolerated to enjoy a movie night.

🏃🏼‍♀️ Walking or running for exercise becomes super frustrating.

🤓 Concentration at work is limited.

There is no known injury yet the body gets tighter and tighter!!
