Children’s responses to trauma can range from increased irritability to total meltdown downs. Sometimes you’ll notice behaviors that your child did years ago. For example, a previously well adjusted four year old will regress and suddenly you’re faced with full blown tantrums every time they transition from one activity to the next. Another example is when your previously outgoing child begins to withdraw. When parents are also dealing with their own stress and trauma, the impact on the family as a whole can be quite profound. The good news is there is hope. Children are resilient. Humans are resilient. As a therapist, my heart breaks for all the families in this situation. Help is out there, let’s support each other.
