Awesome day seeing patients in the Beverly Hills office today! Happy to see new patients here with my office partner Dr Andrew Weiss Orthopedic Surgeon in this beautiful and fun space. I think there are more legos here than Legoland 🤣🤣🤣

To my new and long time patients: I’m looking forward to seeing you all here!

Just finished off one of the most amazing weeks of my academic career. I had the honor of being selected as the Scoliosis Research Society Dawson Traveling Fellow this year and traveling to Nemours to visit Dr. Suken Shah and his team. I had the opportunity to watch incredibly complex surgeries performed by some of the best pediatric orthopedic surgeons in the world. I had the opportunity to teach their three fellows in Grand Rounds as well, Dr. Ander Aretakis, Dr. Morgan Hadley and Dr. Alysa Nash. Three future superstars in the making! I felt a tiny bit jealous of the opportunities that they got as fellows of this top tier fellowship program. World class teaching and clinical care from all of the staff. I got some opportunities to catch up with my childhood best friend Dr. Jonathan Millet and ride bikes with my buddy Dr. Stuart Mackenzie through Delaware and Pennsylvania. Also had the opportunity to participate in the Delaware Valley pediatric orthopedic meeting and meet up with some of my old friends including Dr. Marty Herman. I also shared an epic meal with Suken at Provenance, which was one of my favorite meals ever. All in all, an epic trip that I will never forget. Thanks so much also to Sheela, Rajiv, Maya, and Hazel for allowing me to be a houseguest for the last week. You have a beautiful home and family. Lastly, huge thanks to Scoliosis Research Society and Nemours for the opportunity of a lifetime.

As some of you already know, I left Shriners a few weeks ago. I’m excited to announce that I will be going into private practice starting this week. I will be seeing patients in Brentwood to start with Dr. Jonathan Koenig and will be opening offices in Beverly Hills and Pasadena soon. Looking forward to seeing all of my patients from my former practice and hopefully seeing many more in our beautiful new building spaces. Thanks to all of you for all of your support! Extra special thanks to for all of your business, branding, and your general support. Could not do it without you.

It was a huge honor to be the invited Visiting Grand Rounds lecturer Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando to talk about the latest in anterior vertebral body tethering and why we should be simultaneously cautiously optimistic and skeptical about any new technology. I got to hang out with my good friend Dr. John Lovejoy who is leading an impressive group with amazing growth. But my favorite part was teaching the residents and fellows, as usual. It’s the best part about what I do, aside from taking care of kids!

Hi everyone,

I just stepped down from my position as Chief of Staff at Shriners Children's Southern California. I will be taking on a new position within the Shriners Children’s Medical Group leading physician and advanced practice provider recruitment and development, while keeping my current clinical workload. Dr. Jennifer Weiss, Chief of Staff of Shriners Children's Hawaii, will serve as interim Chief of Staff.

I am very proud of the group that I helped to recruit and build, and I am proud of the hundreds of thousands of lives I have helped to impact in my role as Chief of Staff over the last 10 years together with my amazing Shriners SoCal team. Working beside all of them has been the culmination of my life’s mission: to help children in need. I look forward to the future of the Shriners organization and the Southern California location in particular. We continue to help more and more kids every year from Southern California and beyond and it is only possible because of all of our combined hard work. We have the best doctors, nurses, and staff on the planet—so glad to be a part of it!

Thank you to everyone who made the last 10 years so fun. The next 10 will be even better!

Just wrapped up in Barcelona at the 59th Scoliosis Research Society Annual Meeting. Was on a Hibbs award nominated paper regarding topical tranexamic use in scoliosis surgery (tldr: it doesn’t make a difference) and was the recipient of the Edgar Dawson traveling fellowship this year. I also recorded a podcast with my good friend Dr. Nick Fletcher while fighting jet lag. Learned so much and will use this to help take care of kids and teens with scoliosis. But the best part was seeing my friends from around the world. These meetings make me a better surgeon and make me excited to help more patients with scoliosis. Look forward to the next one!

Such an awesome gift from a patient today—A hand drawn card with a really touching note inside from the patient and her parents. Made me a little bit misty. We bonded over a shared love of Taylor Swift and made sure to play it in the OR as we made her spine straight. She gave me a GOAT (Greatest of All Time) bracelet which was really awesome of her. I love taking care of awesome kids like her!

Case of the week: This is a 11 year old child with a history of syndromic scoliosis secondary to a mitochondrial abnormality. She had a very stiff curve that was corrected with combination of temporary internal distraction, Ponte osteotomies, and simultaneous dual rod reduction. Her alignment was significantly improved in all three planes. She is six months out from surgery and doing very well.
