"The passion of rescue reveals the highest dynamic of the human soul" ~ Kurt Hahn
Advocates For NY Equines - is a group of advocates, like you and I, who want changes in NY State to protect the welfare of NY State Equines. Some Questions:
Where does NY State Fail and Why? What can be done to strengthen the weaknesses? What changes are attainable? Who can help pass new legislation? What equine wel
fare organizations can assist with sheltering and rehabilitative care? How can NY State provide improved training and resources for law enforcement? Who are the veterinarians who can be called upon as resources? Is it possible to have a NY State - Capital Region Location as an Emergency Equine Welfare Shelter? Horses need immediate medical care and at times long term sheltering as an animal cruelty case is open. For the system to be effective law enforcement needs to have "evidence impound locations" available to care for the seized/at-risk equines. Is this a possible solution that would help law enforcement and also advocates? Funding is always another hurdle. Where does the money need to come from for rehabilitative care and care costs? Rehabilitative care is expensive and so is the daily costs to house equines. Not every situation is intentional - over the years the Advocates have met owners of horses who have fallen on hard fiscal or physical times. This includes loss of work and also health related problems that make caring for their horses difficult. In times like these, the police are not usually needed! What is needed is a "Safety Net". Emergency Safety Net Programs are effectively assisting animal owners around the US. It is also an effective and less expensive way to help horses, who are NOT at risk of neglect or abuse. Emergency Safety Net programs provide temporary assistance, veterinary care, farrier trims, food and at times physical labor by a team of volunteer advocates. The Advocate group wishes to also work collaboratively to establish working Emergency Safety Net programs in NY State.
* Again - more collaboration. The current system in NY State is broken, it has it's challenges, but it does not need to remain broken! Macro Change is mandatory, it is also possible! Please Join Advocates For NY Equines and help in the collaborative effort to improve the welfare of NY State Equines.
