Congratulations to one of our Pillar of the Quarter recipients - Mai Yang

This quarter, recipients embody our core values of dedication, collaboration, integrity, innovation, and inclusivity.

“Mai Yang as a BT-P for Fridley is a great example of
what it means to live the mission and be dedicated.
She goes above and beyond to meet the needs of our
learners, helps train staff, and uses her talents to
improve those around her. She is full of new creative
ideas to not only meet the teams needs but further the
mission. Mai is a force of positivity that is contagious
and spreads around the center. She is always looking
for ways to improve in her work. We are so lucky to
have Mai on our team! " Kyle Thompson, Regional
Director

It would be much easier if Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) could be diagnosed with a blood test or x-ray, but it's not that simple.

Questions to ask to help diagnosis autism:

Are any of their behaviors unusual or repetitive?
Do they have trouble making eye contact?
Do they interact with people and share experiences?
Do they respond when someone tries to get their attention?
Is their tone of voice “flat”?
Do they understand other people’s actions?
Are they sensitive to light, noise, or temperature?
Any problems with sleep or digestion?
Do they tend to get annoyed or angry?

When a child is diagnosed with autism, there are a few things to keep in mind. Remember that your child is an individual, create a support system and find credible sources like the Minnesota Autism Center.

Have you seen how much snow Minnesota has gotten in the last two days? Wow! Snow can be a great sensory activity for children with autism. For ex. making snow angels or building a snowman. These activities can be done individually which can help build independence.
