Meet Dr. Wagner. He's a ortho spine specialist through Ortho Partners. He's a great colleague and friend. He has a very modern approach to back pain as he works collegially with Chiro's, PT's, and many other providers. He and his team at Orthopedic Partners have been great supporters of my office and I very much appreciate the attention and care they lend to our patients.

Dr. Peter Wagner, a fellowship-trained spine surgeon at Orthopartners, and Dr. John Flaherty, owner of Advanced Chiropractic in Pawcatuck, CT, sit down to di...

I feel very fortunate that my Chiropractic education taught us to challenge and think. There are numerous examples of things we were taught 25 years ago that were contrary to the mainstream healthcare thinking that just didn't make sense (opinion) when challenged. There are numerous examples in my own practice where I've seen dogma eventually crumble over time. This is yet another example. The point to this post is to challenge each of us to THINK & QUESTION dogmatic thinking in all it's forms. Be critical readers. Investigate who benefits, whose doing the research that you rely upon, and ask does it make sense. This never made sense to me. I stumbled upon this article posted through an MSNBC source.

Non-sugar sweeteners have been developed as an alternative to sugars and are widely used both as an ingredient in pre-packaged foods and beverages and added to food and beverages directly by the consumer.

We don't hear much about the other aspects of long term immunity. Apparently, they aren't as sexy. Fear sells. But memory B & T cells are the bomb. And we should take comfort that our bodies have the capacity to protect us long term. This is a great article and should be read & shared by all.

We unnecessarily stoke fear in the public by constantly referencing waning antibodies over time. But...it's a half truth.

Memory cells are also created subsequent to infection. In other words, our immune systems' build bullet factories. Once we don't need specific antigens (bullets) the warehouse gets empty. We eventually run out of bullets. This is made to sound like a scary premise. It is implied that without those specific antibodies we defenseless and at the mercy of recurring infection.

But....we have Memory cells! At any point we can quickly switch on the lights and fire up the factory, get the band back together and make more bullets to help us fight those nasty recurring infections. Memory cells to the rescue!

Our bodies have wisdom to them and sometimes we forget that.
We need to nurture our immune systems with good rest, good nutrition, good exercise, and be confident in the fact that our immune systems will be better able to take care of us when we need it.

Antibodies aren’t the whole story.

“ In Washington DC, at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, a man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

After about four minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.

About four minutes later, the violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

At six minutes, a young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

At ten minutes, a three-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.

At forty-five minutes: The musician played continuously. Only six people stopped and listened for a short while. About twenty gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

After one hour:
He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities.

This experiment raised several questions:

In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

If so, do we stop to appreciate it?

Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made…

How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?”

The Doctor

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the benefits of natural health care. I grew up in Pawcatuck, where my family still resides. I decided to become a Chiropractor when I was 16. I injured myself playing sports and had a very positive first experience with a local Chiropractor, Dr. Robert Recor (still in practice today).

I was amazed at the level of thoroughness, knowledge and the results I got from my very first visit. Until then, I was injured to the point where I was unable to play sports and enjoy my life with the vigor that I wanted.

It was the Chiropractor who finally told me exactly what was wrong, what I should do, and how to fix it. On that day, my very first experience with a Chiropractor, I decided that I would someday be a Chiropractor. I wanted to give to others, what was given to me...my health, my life and a renewed sense of possibilities.

I attended the University of Connecticut in 1987 and earned a B.A. in English and minored in pre-med. I later enrolled in the Southern Connecticut State University's Master's Program for Creative Writing, and in 1997 I graduated from the Life University in Marietta, GA. with a Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic sciences. My education continues every single day.
