Farewell, Dr. Desoutter!

Dear PANA Families—

After nearly 30 years of practicing medicine, 28 of them here at Pediatric Associates of North Atlanta, and with great emotion, I will be retiring from the practice at the end of the year.

My time here has been truly memorable, practicing pediatrics with such a lovely community of children and their parents. It has been a priceless experience to watch your families grow and there have been many children who I cared for over the years, now having families of their own. Not too many professions would allow such a wonderful opportunity and I will miss you all.

Most of you have met the other providers at PANA who have been fantastic colleagues over the years and who I will also miss: Doctors Sheri Zager, Julian Gorvy, Rachel Knuth and Laurie Levy, along with our Nurse Practitioner, Kari Vance. For those of you who have been cared for by me as your primary provider when coming to our clinic, rest assured that whoever takes over your child’s care at PANA, you will be in professional and very capable hands.

You do not need to worry about your child’s medical records as they will remain on file with Pediatric Associates of North Atlanta. If you have any questions about your child’s future care, his or her records, or to schedule an appointment, our front desk staff will be happy to help you.

Again, thank you for the opportunity of letting me participate in the care of your very special family.

Sincerely,

Lori Desoutter, MD

To our current and prospective patients,

We are very grateful for our community here at Pediatric Associates of North Atlanta. It gives us great pride and joy to be able to bring premier, evidence-based care to our patients and to watch them grow and thrive. As part of this evidence-based care, we adhere to the vaccine guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). We feel it is important to follow these recommendations as part of our practice. Our goal is to keep our patients healthy through adequate immunization practice and to protect them against preventable infections with their serious consequences.

We have made the decision to no longer accept new families to our practice who choose not to vaccinate their children at all. We do not want to offend anyone, but rather to treat our existing patients in a safe and evidence-based way.

We do not recommend alternate vaccine schedules because delaying vaccines can increase the chance of contracting a preventable infection. Alternate vaccine schedules also do not have scientific studies backing them, which means that we cannot know if they are equally as effective as the vaccine schedule set out by AAP/CDC/ACIP.

We will continue to work with families who choose to delay vaccines, as long as we feel it is reasonable.

The link to the ACIP/AAP guidelines for vaccinations is attached below for your reference. We also feel that our role as pediatricians is to have discussions regarding vaccine efficacy and safety, so we encourage you to ask us questions if you have them.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, released the latest immunization schedule for children and adolescents, outlining all the vaccines that are recommended to promote health.
