Unlocking the Healing Potential: Exploring the Benefits of Laser Therapy
In the realm of modern healthcare, the quest for effective, non-invasive treatments that promote healing and well-being continues to evolve. One remarkable innovation that has gained traction is Laser Therapy – a cutting-edge approach that utilizes the power of light to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms. In this blog post, we will delve into the world of Laser Therapy, exploring its mechanism, applications, and the transformative benefits it offers.

Illuminating the Science: How Laser Therapy Works

Imagine a therapy that harnesses the potential of light to bring about healing within the body. That’s the essence of Laser Therapy. This non-invasive treatment involves the precise application of low-level laser light to specific areas of the body, triggering a cascade of biological responses. At a cellular level, this gentle yet powerful energy stimulates cellular metabolism and increases blood circulation, facilitating the body’s own healing processes.

A Multitude of Applications

Laser Therapy’s versatility is truly astounding. From musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain to post-surgery recovery and even skin conditions, this therapeutic approach has found its way into various realms of healthcare. Athletes are benefiting from its ability to expedite tissue repair, while those seeking relief from joint pain and inflammation are discovering newfound comfort. Furthermore, Laser Therapy has extended its soothing touch to oncology rehabilitation, helping cancer survivors manage discomfort and enhance their quality of life.

The Healing Experience: What to Expect

Undergoing Laser Therapy is a gentle and comfortable experience. Patients often describe it as a soothing, warm sensation. During each session, the laser light is carefully directed to the targeted area, and the body responds by releasing endorphins – natural pain relievers – and initiating the repair process. Sessions are relatively short, allowing individuals to seamlessly integrate this treatment into their busy lives.

Empowering the Path to Wellness

What sets Laser Therapy apart is its alignment with the holistic approach to healing. Beyond addressing physical discomfort, this therapy acknowledges the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. With each session, not only does the body experience relief, but a sense of well-being also emerges. This holistic aspect of Laser Therapy is a reflection of the compassionate ethos at Healers of Motion, where personalized care and genuine concern lay the foundation for every treatment.

Embrace the Light: Your Journey to Vibrant Health

As we navigate the landscape of healthcare advancements, Laser Therapy shines as a beacon of hope for those seeking alternatives to traditional treatments. Why are people turning to yoga and tai chi for back pain? Evelyn Mora, physical therapist in Pembroke Pines, FL is here to share why!

While the recommendations for back pain used to involve as much rest as possible, this is no longer the case. Today, movement is very much encouraged for those experiencing back pain. In fact, rest could actually make your pain worse.

So, why the change in recommendations? And can activities like yoga, tai chi, or chi gong help? In this article, we’re going to dive into exactly how movement helps back pain and the benefits behind these ancient movement practices.

Why Movement Is Important for Back Pain
According to Dr Evelyn Mora, at Healers of Motion Physical Therapy in Pembroke Pines, “not moving frequently enough or inactivity leads to weakened muscles.” More specifically, your core muscles lose strength, which significantly impacts your low back. When the core is weak, the body ends up compensating by placing stress or strain on other structures (such as those in the low back) that aren’t equipped to handle it.

Many studies have cited the importance of exercise when it comes to preventing and combating back pain. While exercise isn’t always a cure, it can help improve a person’s pain levels and reduce the frequency of flare-ups, contributing to a better quality of life.

So, why was bed rest recommended? The truth is that we just didn’t know any better. When a person rests, the pain isn’t as bad. There isn’t any movement to aggravate it. Yet, upon further examination, it was determined that individuals recovered quicker from back pain when bedrest was taken out of the equation.

Some exercises that have proven effective against back pain include:

Walking
Yoga
Pilates
Tai Chi
Core-Focused Exercise Programs
Along with incorporating movement into a routine, experts also state that knowing why exercise reduces low back pain can help individuals adhere to a routine.

The Benefits of Yoga, Tai Chi, and Chi Gong
Recent research, published in 2020, has also indicated the effectiveness of certain exercise routines. In particular, these researchers determined yoga, tai chi, and chi gong help reduce pain, improve functional ability, and decrease psychological stress.

These types of exercise may be particularly beneficial due to their focus on core strength and proper posture, breathing techniques, and lower intensity.

In fact, chronic stress is very much associated with chronic pain. Thus, through breathing techniques involved in these exercises, an individual can actively reduce their stress levels, contributing to reduced pain levels.

Additionally, core strength and posture work can help re-balance the body, taking the stress and strain off of the lower back. In turn, these can also function as preventative exercises for back pain. Thus, if you’re looking for a workout that won’t aggravate your pain and can help prevent future pain, yoga, tai chi, and chi gong might be worthwhile options.

Got Back Pain That Just Won’t Quit? Consult a Physical Therapist Today!

Back and shoulder pain is becoming all too common, with many individuals working sedentary jobs and technology becoming a bigger part of our everyday lives. Maybe you’re even experiencing back or shoulder pain right now, and you’re on the hunt for effective pain relief. You might wonder if physical therapy is right for you.

At Healers of Motion Physical Therapy, Dr Evelyn Mora and the team are dedicated to helping you achieve a higher state of health — without pain standing in your way. In fact, we consider ourselves pain relief specialists when it comes to joint and musculoskeletal issues. So, how can you overcome back and shoulder pain? Is physical therapy a suitable option for you?

Causes of Back and Shoulder Pain
You can experience back and shoulder pain due to a variety of reasons. However, we’ve taken the time to outline the most common causes below. This can give you a better understanding as to why pain is happening, and potentially, how you can avoid it.

1. Poor Posture
Are you hunching forward at your desk? Or are you craning your neck to look at your phone? It’s time to re-assess your posture. Bring your phone up to your eye level as opposed to the other way around. Consciously bring your shoulder blades down and back. As a kid, your parents were onto something when they barked at you to sit up straight.

Research shows how improvements in postural awareness reduced pain in individuals with shoulder and back pain. The truth is that many of us aren’t aware of how we’re sitting, especially when we’re sitting for long durations for work or leisure activities.

“Proper posture is the position where the body is under the least amount of strain or stress.” says Mora, owner of Healers of Motion Physical Therapy. In turn, this is less likely to result in pain or discomforts. However, this “proper posture” does not involve hunched or rounded shoulders or a protruding neck.

Rather, when sitting, you want your screen to be at eye level so you can sit back in your chair with your feet flat on the ground. Your shoulders should be relaxed but down and back. Yet, many of us forget to do this after long durations, which we’re going to explore in more detail in the next section.

2. Sitting for Long Durations
Poor posture isn’t the only problem driving back and shoulder pain cases. How long we’re sitting matters too.

As we sit for long durations to complete our 8-hour workday or play video games, we forget about our posture. Inevitably, this leads to poor posture, then, often, back pain. However, setting alarms or notifications as reminders can help you become more conscious of this.

At the same time, the human body isn’t made to sit all day in the same chair. Your body actually thrives with movement thrown into the mix. Thus, on top of fixing your posture, you’ll want to take breaks from sitting in general. Stand up and stretch. Go for a quick walk down the hall every hour or two. This can give your body a break and encourage blood flow to the places that lack it when you’re sitting down.

3. Heavy Lifting
In many occupations, heavy lifting is unavoidable. It’s also necessary when moving around at home or performing certain tasks around the house. Yet, many people struggle to lift properly. And improper lifting can quickly lead to shoulder or back pain.

Instead, ensure you’re lifting with a neutral back. Hold the object close to your body. Bend your knees to get underneath, then lift, pushing through your feet.

4. Repetitive Actions
Meanwhile, many other jobs or activities involve repetitive actions. For instance, a pitcher in baseball throws ball after ball. A carpenter might hammer in nail after nail. These repetitive actions can lead to overuse injuries, such as tendonitis in the shoulder or back, resulting in shoulder pain.

Combatting Back and Shoulder Pain With Physical Therapy
If you’re experiencing back and shoulder pain that just won’t quit, physical therapy might be the right option for you. During physical therapy, Dr Evelyn Mora and the team will help you get back to your daily activities, without pain. Physical therapy works with your body and helps stimulate your body’s innate healing mechanisms, guiding you toward better health.

With back and shoulder pain, your physical therapy treatment may include:

● Prescribed Exercises – These will often focus on strengthening your posture muscles, such as those in the mid to upper back, your core, and your rotator cuff. Your physical therapist will also prescribe stretches to help relieve tight muscles.

● Manual Therapy – Techniques, such as traction, kneading, myofascial release, and more, help stimulate healing by encouraging blood flow and releasing tension.

● Cold and Heat Application – Hot and cold therapy can help manage your pain. Your
physical therapist will further guide you on how to use these techniques at home.

● Education – As part of physical therapy, prevention is key. Your physical therapist will educate you on preventative strategies, along with prescribing exercises to help
strengthen the affected area and prevent future or recurring injuries.

If you’re ready to get started with a physical therapist in Pembroke Pines, Florida, call Healers of Motion Physical Therapy at 954-861-0252. Let us help you get back on track and guide you toward making a full recovery. It’s time for you to find relief from your back pain or shoulder pain.

Aging is an unavoidable part of life. As time goes on, everyone, eventually, experiences wear and tear. However, what you do plays a huge role here. For instance, if you haven’t moved your body as much as you should and lead a fairly sedentary lifestyle, this wear and tear might happen more quickly than you’d like.

On the other hand, if you develop a well-rounded exercise routine as you age, you will likely maintain agility, flexibility, and strength well into your later years. So, let’s look into the topic of flexibility a bit closer. Why does flexibility matter? And how can you improve yours?

What is Flexibility? Why Is It Important?
Flexibility refers to the ability of your joints to move through their full range of motion, without pain or restriction.

With age, you might notice your flexibility decrease. You wake up stiff and achy in the morning, and may have balance issues. Maybe this prevents you from moving throughout your day. Thus, your flexibility takes even more of a hit.

But why does flexibility matter in the first place? “Optimal flexibility increases the efficiency of movement. In other words, good flexibility means that it takes less effort or energy to perform certain movements, such as standing from your chair or bending over to pick something up off of the ground.” says Dr Evelyn Mora, owner of Healers of Motion Physical Therapy in Pembroke Pines, FL.

In fact, increasing your flexibility might make you feel stronger, simply because your muscles are able to work more efficiently. In turn, you’re able to participate in the activities or sports you enjoy, no matter your age.

Additionally, improved flexibility is associated with the following benefits:
● Reduced risk of injuries.
● Improved balance.
● Improved posture (which prevents hunching or rounding of the upper back).
● Decreased chronic pain.
● Improved ability to move and exercise.

How to Improve Your Flexibility
If you’re struggling with decreased flexibility, don’t panic. There are many ways you can work toward improving your flexibility and increasing your quality of life. At Healers of Motion Physical Therapy, we even have a few tips to help you out.

Tip #1: Stretch Daily.
A few minutes of stretching a day can keep the doctor away. Research even shows how a six-week stretching program has the ability to improve function in older adults.

Additionally, stretching is something that can be performed anywhere and anytime. The other good news is that it doesn’t have to eat up a ton of your time. Even just five minutes a day can help improve or maintain flexibility.

When it comes to stretching, you’ll want to perform static stretches (stretches that you hold for 20-30 seconds at a time) and dynamic stretches (stretches that involve moving your joints through their full range of motion, such as arm circles).

When building a daily stretching routine, it’s also important to ensure that you gradually build. Try a couple of stretches to start and add more every few weeks.

Another quick note here: Only stretch to the point before pain. If pain occurs, you’ve gone too far.

Tip #2: Consider Foam Rolling.
Foam rolling is an excellent addition to a flexibility routine. A foam roller helps release muscular tension, increasing your flexibility and mobility. They are also very affordable, costing around $10.

Tip #3: Participate in Regular Movement.
The human body thrives with regular exercise, and it doesn’t have to be overly complicated. Regular exercise could involve walking each day or performing resistance training for 30 minutes three times a week. The goal is to find something you enjoy and that you can stick with.
