We spent the day digging up and moving perennials, removing sticks and leaves and pulling ground ivy😭

I was beyond excited to get in my first round of plants from 🙌🏻💃🏻 We contacted Melissa last year and she graciously agreed to grow some plants I wanted to start this year.

The next phase of operation has begun. It’s going to be a lot of work this year, and we may not see the results I’m looking for a few more years. But step by step, plant by plant, we are getting closer to the goal💪🏻

We have the “boom tent” back out and doing some indoor mushroom growing again. Some years I have a dry spell foraging, so I opt to just cultivate.

The shiitake look almost ready, just took them out of the bag five days ago😱 They become part of our mushroom immune tincture and are a part of our allergy tonic formula.

The lions mane haven’t started pinning yet, but they usually take a little more time. We make a lions mane tincture from them for cognitive support🌿

TBH, we are growing the pink oysters just because I’m obsessed with making “bacon” from them. Let me know if you want my recipe because 🤤

Over a decade ago we quit chopping down plants at the end of the growing season. I learned that my “fall cleanup” was a detriment to wildlife.

By leaving behind the dead stem and flower tops, we are providing shelter and food to birds, critters and insects.
🌿
Did you know that snow works to insulate the soil? Covering the soil in a winter blanket, protecting from extreme cold, preventing deep frost, and supporting the survival of microbes.

When I shovel, I toss the snow onto the perennial beds, creating a thicker comforter to support the soil, along with the flora and fauna🌿😉
