We are excited to announce the addition of yoga and art classes beginning in March at the Landmark!
Shantel Arends has recently moved to the area with her family where she keeps busy substitute teaching, working as an printmaker, chasing a toddler, and now is excited to add to her new business Svadhaya Yoga Shala- yoga classes, as well as art and craft events at the Landmark.
Bio: Originally from Stanley, ND, Shantel has pursued art in beginning in a portfolio preparation course in Dublin, Ireland in 1998, receiving a notable acceptance to the National College of Art and Design.
Upon returning to the US, Shantel received her yoga teacher’s certification from Yogamotion in Lake Flathead, MN in 2001. She went on to pursue her Bachelor in Studio Art (Painting) at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA while surfing, practicing dance meditation and Bikram hot yoga.
Shantel received her Master of Fine Art with emphasis in Printmaking from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco after attending on campus in 2008 and abroad in Italy.
Travels to India and Thailand enriched her study and scope of knowledge in yoga and it’s rich history. She is passionate about the transformative and spiritual elements of traditional Hatha (physical) yoga- but also says she is very much a “beginner” again. After getting away from her practice and having a child, she looks forward to starting together with the community and growing and learning together in the magic of yoga and focusing on herself again and helping others do so too.
After receiving her MFA, Shantel returned home to ND (Watford City) where she began Make and Take Painting Parties, hosting events for groups of women that had the option to bring snacks and wine and paint a painting together as a group. She was amazed how busy and fast her business took off, and soon she was doing children’s events, fundraisers, private parties intergenerational and Holiday parties.
For information on any of these options feel free to reach her directly.
What is most important to Shantel now is bringing people together, and learning from each other, and spending quality time with community and with families. She looks forward to hosting events that enrich creativity and art in the area, and bringing women together, and teaching yoga.
First yoga classes are set to begin March 1st, weather permitting.
