I just got this email from a dog daycare I sent my dogs to 3 times (on the 3rd visit, Ella came home with a swollen right eye, and the pads of her paws badly burned. Bane had diarrhea for the next 24 hrs). This is probably not kennel cough, it’s probably that bad virus that is going around, and it’s no joke. If your dog is sick, keep them home. Why on earth would you want to infect other dogs?! The doggie daycares are overloaded with dogs and they can’t successfully monitor the problem because, they are already spread thin. Do your part, keep your side of the street clean!

I LOVE a senior pet. My own senior passed a couple of years ago, but for 5 years, I fed him a fresh, whole food diet. I’m certain that is how he was able to have such a long life. Dogs of any age can enjoy berries, but they are especially beneficial for your geriatric dog.

When offering blackberries to your pet, remember, large dogs can enjoy a handful of berries daily. Smaller dogs can be given two to four berries for every 10 pounds of body weight.

In traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, garlic is indicated for food stagnation, cancer, diabetes, and asthma. It is used to “warm the middle” and promote both digestion and healthy intestinal flora. Most commonly, garlic is used for natural prevention of parasites, fleas, and ticks.

Garlic can be beneficial for both dogs and cats in appropriate doses. You can use fresh crushed cloves to get the full benefits of garlic.

For cats: 1/4 clove (crushed) daily, 3-4 days per week.
For dogs: 1/2 clove (crushed) per 20 pounds of body weight daily, with a maximum of 3 cloves.

It is best to take at least 1 day off per week.

**Please make sure to note the difference between a clove and a bulb/head of garlic.

**Not recommended for puppies and kittens. Long term use is contraindicated in pets with vision issues. If your pet has a history of hemolytic anemia, it is safer to avoid use of garlic in any form.
