I met Bella when she was 2 months old, sitting in an Easter basket, looking as surprised as I was. From the beginning, her beautiful eyes looked at us all with pure love.
Whenever she saw us after a separation, whether it was an hour or a day, she jumped and squealed with joy. Every time. It drove us crazy, but you always knew that you were the most important person in her life.
She grew into a beautiful, long haired Irish Setter who ran like the wind and chased the ball and had never ending energy and enthusiasm.
She spent her whole life exploring the only home she knew, running in the morning to chase the deer and the fox and sniff all the spots, and climbed the stairs at night to her bed next to ours to sleep with her legs straight up in the air and torture us with her doggy snores and farts.
18 months ago she lost her leg to cancer, and the vet told us her lifespan may only be a few months. But she rallied, and still ran like the wind and chased the deer and geese and herons.
She made it to Leslie’s wedding and was a favorite in her flower collar. She made it to Christmas and her 11th birthday on Valentines Day.
We knew we were so, so lucky to have had her so much longer than we were supposed to.
Our courageous, strong, beautiful girl left us last Monday under her favorite tree, held in all of our loving arms.
She loved big, with all her heart-she seized the day, whether it was sunny and bright or pouring rain. She was always up to play and catch the ball. She taught us courage and perseverance, friendship and unconditional love, as only a dog can do.
She would have loved today- laying under the tree in the sun, the warm breeze ruffling her long hair, keeping an eye on things, rolling on her back for a good scratch or coming to us for a belly rub.
We are grateful to our students who saw her and petted her when she greeted you on the way to class. To the wonderful doctors and VCA in Yardley, thank you for everything.
And Bella, beautiful Bella, we will always love you, and never, ever forget you. Rest in peace my sweet girl. 💜🐕
