American Hemochromatosis Society also known as iron overload disease or "genetic iron poisoning" hereditary hemochromatosis is the most common genetic disease in the United States.
Hereditary hemochromatosis can affect both sexes and all ages. 1 in 8 are carriers of the single hereditary hemochromatosis gene mutation and approximately 1 in every 100-200 have the double mutation gene placing them at a high risk of developing hereditary hemochromatosis.
