🌟 **The Benefits of Delayed Cord Clamping** 🌟

Did you know that waiting to clamp and cut the umbilical cord after birth can have significant benefits for both baby and mother? 🤰✨

🔍 **What is Delayed Cord Clamping?**

Delayed cord clamping is the practice of waiting at least 1-3 minutes after birth before cutting the umbilical cord. This allows for the continued transfer of blood from the placenta to the newborn, enhancing their transition into the world.

💖 **Benefits for the Baby**

**Increased Blood Volume**
Delayed clamping can provide the baby with an extra 30% more blood, enriching their oxygen supply and improving overall health.
**Higher Iron Levels**
This extra blood can lead to higher iron levels, reducing the risk of anemia in infancy.
**Better Transition**
The gradual transition helps stabilize the baby's heart rate and temperature.

🤱 **Benefits for mom**

**Reduced Risk of Postpartum Hemorrhage**
Delayed clamping can help the uterus contract more effectively, potentially reducing the risk of excessive bleeding after childbirth.
**Enhanced Bonding**
This waiting period allows for skin-to-skin contact, fostering that vital early bond between parent and baby.

📅 **When to Delay**

Most healthcare providers support delayed cord clamping unless there are medical emergencies that require immediate intervention. Ideally, wait for the cord to stop pulsing (wait for white).

Let's embrace the power of this simple practice that can make a big difference! 💕 Have you experienced delayed cord clamping? Share your thoughts below! 👇

⭐️MEET THE TEAM⭐️

Nichole has 30 years of experience caring for young children and their parents. She is a DONA International trained post-partum doula as well as a trained Le Leche League volunteer. Nichole's interest in postpartum care traces back to her first pregnancy over 30 years ago. She became passionate about supporting families when she herself was a first time mom at 20 with very little knowledge and lacking any support people during her experience. She realized she was not alone in her experience, as it is common that many people do not have families that live nearby to help them adjust to parenthood. Nichole provides lactation support, evidence-based information on infant feeding and care, recovery and support for new mothers after birth, emotional and physical support for new parents, parent-baby bonding, infant soothing, and helping siblings adjust. Nichole has cared for children with and without medical needs in their home.
Nichole is a mother of 4 grown children, a Grandmom, nanny, active in social justice and environmental causes, and a student of Tai Chi.
