For many of us, “coping” has meant overworking, emotional numbness, secrecy, purging, suppression of desire, perfectionism, or swallowing our hurt.

True North invites AANHPI and intersectional communities to explore how everyday mental health challenges are shaped by history, migration, family systems, and the need to belong.

Each month, Dr. Ramirez will offer education, ACT-based tools, and recovery-oriented frameworks to help us untangle generational wounds, unhealthy soothing, and the habits that keep us disconnected — while honoring our resilience and our roots.

🗓 2nd Sundays • Virtual starting January 11th. 2026 at 2:30 PM EST

🧭 True North — Diaspora Recovery & Integration Group 🌿

Do you ever feel haunted by:
pressure to be “small, thin, perfect,”
hiding shame around food or body,
unspoken family trauma, migration grief, or inherited pain,
hustling for money or survival, or
compulsive patterns around s*x, work, or self-worth

You’re not alone — and you’re not broken for feeling this way.

📌 Why we exist:
Research shows that Asian-American women report comparable or higher rates of disordered eating and body dissatisfaction compared to White women.

Younger Asian Americans report elevated rates of restrictive eating, purging, muscle-building efforts, and negative attitudes toward obesity compared with their non-Asian peers.

Meanwhile, problem gambling and compulsive risk behaviors are disproportionately high among some AANHPI communities — sometimes tied to migration stress, intergenerational expectation, and cultural silence around trauma.

These patterns — around food, body, money, s*x, and family — are not random. They are often interconnected attempts to survive or numb pain passed through generations.
