Hi Everyone...as some of you may or may not know my mom Debbie was diagnosed over 20 years ago with Chronic Kidney Disease. She has been fighting this battle for many years, but earlier this year we learned that she is now in stage 5 CKD and will need a kidney transplant. We knew this day would come eventually, but hearing that news was heartbreaking. She has been a model patient and has prolonged this diagnosis as much as she can on her own, but she can no longer fight this disease alone....she NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!
If you know my mom then you know her heart is as big as she is and that she's the first person to help someone in need. She has done that her entire life. She consistently puts everyone else's needs above her own and doesn't hesitate when doing so. She has been a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and has never let this disease get the best of her. Looking at her you would never know the daily struggles she faces as she continues to work hard everyday and lives life to the fullest. I have been blessed to have her by my side for the past 40 years as my mom, role model and friend and my hope is that my daughter gets to experience a lifetime of the same love, happiness and friendship that she has given to me.
Asking others for something as big as donating one of their kidneys is not an easy task. It's one that my mom did not want to do, especially on Facebook. When I initially asked her if I could start this page her immediate answer was "no", but after thinking long and hard she finally agreed. I know she isn't the best at asking for help let alone asking her friends, family and complete strangers to donate one of their kidneys but its necessary so I will do it for her. Please consider saving my mom's life!!
We understand that not everyone is able to donate, but simply sharing this page can do more than you think. She needs a donor with type A or O blood, but anyone in good health, with any blood type and willing to donate can enter a living donor swap program. In doing that you would be helping not only my mom, but someone else's family member too. The donor screening process is completely anonymous and the recipient would only know if you choose to share. Below is a link to the University of Pennsylvania screening process. The process is long and hard but it is worth it. I will add additional information for donation throughout this page but if you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to me or my mom.
If you are interested in becoming a potential donor please contact The Living Donor Team at The University of Pennsylvania @ 215-662-6200 for an initial screening or follow the link attached to this page. You can also get more information on being a living kidney donor at www.kidney.org/livingdonation
Thank You for reading, SHARING and Praying for my mom
