Karen Pucillo - Marriage & Family Therapist

Karen Pucillo - Marriage & Family Therapist Resilience Therapy Group By Robin Pepe When couples get stuck in the same interaction cycle, the pattern must be broken. Please call me to discuss.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, I believe that all couples and individuals should take the time to nurture themselves and their relationships. I enjoy helping couples to decode their messages to each other, repair bonds, increase security, and their rebuild connection with healthy interaction patterns. I also like to work with individuals to deepen the understanding of dilemmas and process feelings. Together we can work on the skills to elicit the best you! My passions include strengthening relationships, anger management, persistent grief, boundary setting, and motherhood struggles. While I do not work with insurance at this time, I work on a sliding scale.

So true.

It's not usually intentional, but defensiveness is a way of reversing blame. This sets you and your partner at opposite ends of a conflict, leaving you both alone to solve the challenge. Read more on the Gottman Relationship Blog: https://bit.ly/3JzygNa

Stay tuned tomorrow when we'll talk about the antidote to defensiveness!

Contempt is the most destructive negative behavior in relationships and is the number one predictor of divorce.

Contempt is not "I hate you." It's worse. It says "I'm better than you, you're lesser than me." Just like betrayal comes from broken trust, contempt comes from broken respect.

Throughout this week, we'll be focusing on how this horseman shows up and what serves as the antidote.

"John Gottman from the Gottman Institute has done extensive research regarding relationships and what makes them happy.

One of the more interesting findings is about the magic ratio. After examining couples and how they dealt with conflict, it seemed that happy couples for who love lasts show five positive interactions for each negative one.

[...]So, let’s say there is a conflict between a couple where one criticizes the other. Then, to resolve this conflict they can try positive interactions, which for example are showing empathy, apologizing, being affectionate, showing appreciation or interest."
