Today, January 14th, is National Cesarean Section day! This day was designated in honor of all the mothers who have undergone a c-section :breast-feeding: As a fertility-focused clinic, we see a lot of moms postpartum and work with a lot of c-section patients! Scar tissue formation can lead to complications such as nerve damage, keloids, or adhesions. This interruption in the flow of energy may be associated with pain and discomfort. Acupuncture can help to break up scar tissue and reduce the redness and swelling around these scars to alleviate symptoms. Cool right?!

Acupuncture needles, also commonly referred to as pins, are so teeny tiny! The needles we typically use range between .14-.25mm—that’s about the width of a strand of human hair!

Vashni Nilon discovered acupuncture after chemotherapy and surgery. Although technically cancer free at the time, she was exhausted, weak, and in premature menopause. Acupuncture helped her get back to health. Believe it or not, Steve Mavros was her first acupuncturist!⁠
As a practitioner, Vashni pays it forward aiding patients undergoing cancer treatment. She also finds success in treating male and female infertility, stress and anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Outside of the office, Vashni enjoys staying active via circus!

Steve had the great pleasure of showing Fox 29‘s the benefits of press needles for stress, anxiety and nausea. Whether it’s called ear seeding (using small beads or seeds) or press tacks, there’s been great research in the military and other scientists showing the benefits of using points in the ear to modulate cortisol (the body’s stress hormone) and relieve symptoms of depression by stimulating the vagus nerve.

Can acupuncture help make calm babies? We don’t have any research to prove it but all of our patients we follow through to birth sure seem to think so! Pregnancy can be super stressful, especially during a pandemic. So take whatever steps you need to find a centered place throughout. Acupuncture can definitely be a great tool. Our newest HAC addition rocking his onesie sure seems to agree.
