Pain relief during labor isn’t one-size-fits-all and now there’s another option to know about.

Jefferson Abington Hospital now offers nitrous oxide for labor pain management. Nitrous oxide can help take the edge off contractions by easing anxiety while still allowing you to move around and stay in control during labor.

In this video, Julianna Choi, CNM, a certified nurse-midwife at Jefferson Abington Hospital, explains how nitrous oxide works and when it may be used during the labor process.

If you’re expecting, talk with your care team about whether this could be part of your birth plan.

Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Frank E. Boston, a decorated World War I veteran, surgeon and one of the first African American physicians in the region to found both an ambulance corps and a hospital.

Dr. Boston established the Volunteer Medical Service Corps (VMSC), one of the earliest ambulance corps in the country, helping lay the groundwork for modern emergency medical services. He also founded a hospital in Lansdale so members of the community could receive care at a time when access was limited. That hospital would later become part of what is now Jefferson Lansdale Hospital.

As we celebrate Dr. Boston’s birthday, we reflect on a legacy of service, compassion and leadership that continues to inspire our community today.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and Dr. Steven Fassler, colore**al surgeon at Jefferson Health, is urging you to know the signs.

Colon cancer may present with re**al bleeding, lasting changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain that does not go away, unexplained weight loss or stools that appear thinner than usual. These symptoms can be caused by a number of conditions, but they should always be evaluated.

Staying aware is important, but staying current with screening is critical.

Dr. Mitchell Edelson, gynecologic oncologist at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital, leads oncology research efforts at Asplundh alongside Clinical Trials Project Manager Ashley Douglas and a dedicated clinical trials team.
