Urgent- If your parents own a timeshare.

There’s a sophisticated scam targeting older adults — and it’s devastating.

Someone reaches out claiming they have a buyer for your parent’s timeshare ( very often this person is based in Mexico). The deal looks real — contracts, emails, even “escrow” documents. But then come the upfront fees: wire transfers, taxes, legal forms.

Each fee sounds like the last step to close the sale. But it never is.
Some families have lost tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars this way. .

If your parents mention anything about:
A surprise buyer for their timeshare
Needing to wire money to "close" a deal
Speaking to someone who claims to be a lawyer, escrow agent, or government official...
Step in. Immediately.

Tell them to stop communication.
Don’t send a single dollar.
Report it to ic3.gov (FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center).

You don’t need to shame or scare them — just let them know it’s a known scam, and they’re not alone. These operations are extremely convincing and prey on trust.

Let’s look out for each other and talk about this stuff before the damage is done.

How to help.
Maintain routine even on weekends
Limit visitors to 2-3 at a time
Plan rest periods during family gatherings
Keep familiar objects visible
