P❤️l3stine Solidarity Porch on Saturday 5/31, 2-5pm. 4514 Chester Ave. It's unspeakably sad that it's the second year we're having to do this. Politics directly impact the people we work with and our communities in general. It's not enough to just show up and try to do damage control in your sessions.

Philly go vote today. I'm voting Krasner because he locks up less people and I see the intense pain and trauma incarceration causes our entire city (excluding the people making money off it) I'm voting yes on all the questions because people shouldn't be dying, much less hurt, (much less there at) all while incarcerated, because unhoused people have rights, and because developers have obligations.

March, educate, fundraise, create, speak out, take care of each other, vote, organize, pay reparations,
call electeds, give testimony,
raise rebel children.)

I was fortunate to grow up in a home where we were taught that the politics of the United States are for war and oppression and not to take care of the people. Still, it was a shock to start working in healthcare and experience first hand how awful being are treated. It also took me a while to accept the limits of what I could do in the therapy space within oppressive and underfunded healthcare systems. We have to prepare our student therapists for this and hold space for them to grieve and find their way. (image: philly skyline in a n artsy filter with teh text: If you operate without understanding that healthcare is political and the US values colonization and white supremacy over taking care of people, you are more prone to burn out.

You'll be less effective as a therapist because you ignore the oppressive systems that make people unwell and keep them from healing.

You'll blame and resent yourself or the clients for lack of progress instead of blaming, resenting and resisting the systems that are the root cause.)
