🌿 What a Wonderful Afternoon! 🌿

"Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of joining our Independent Living residents on their monthly outing, and what a treat it was! This time, we visited Terrain Café at Delaware Valley University—a truly beautiful spot. The gardens were breathtaking, the greenhouse was full of inspiration, and the gift shop? Almost as amazing as the blooms outside!

But the real highlight was the company. Spending the afternoon with this lovely group was such a joy. We shared laughs, great conversation, and a delicious meal in a setting that felt like a little escape.

Special shout-out to Roger—our incredible transportation driver who is so much more than that. He’s a friend to our residents, always going above and beyond, from driving safely to walking them right to their doors. We’re lucky to have him!

One fun fact about Terrain Café: Terrain's culinary team works directly with the farmers, agricultural teams, and students of DelVal to deliver their produce straight to cafe tables. And yes… everything tasted as good as it sounds!

I hear the next trip is to the beach! These monthly adventures are one of the many amenities our Independent Living residents enjoy, and after today, I can see why it’s a favorite tradition.

Truly an afternoon filled with laughter, beauty, and community." --Rachel Carver | Pickering Manor Director of Marketing

💃 Dance Movement Therapy Brings Connection & Joy to Memory Care 💃

Jeannine Matyi, a Registered Dance Movement Therapist, lead a beautiful session in our Memory Care neighborhood. Residents engaged in gentle, participant-led movement set to familiar music — using scarves, bongos, and joyful expression to connect with themselves and one another.

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) supports emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being, and in memory care, it can be especially powerful. These sessions spark joy, reduce anxiety, and encourage meaningful interaction — all while being incredibly fun!

🌟 36 Years. One Incredible Legacy. 🌟

Pickering Manor’s longest-serving employee, Chris Weand, is officially retiring!

Chris began her journey with us in September 1988 as a Dietary Aide. For nearly 36 years, she’s been a shining example of kindness, dedication, and heart — touching the lives of countless residents and staff along the way.

When asked about her favorite memories, Chris shared:
“Pickering is like family. I’ve made so many friends and social connections over the years.”

Chris is now looking forward to more time with her family and grandsons, reconnecting with extended loved ones, and catching up on reading.

A message from our CEO, David Woodhead:
“Chris has been a constant source of warmth, dedication, and positivity at Pickering Manor. Her presence has truly made Pickering feel like home for so many. We’re grateful for all she’s given and wish her the very best in this next chapter.”

Chris, thank you for everything — you will be deeply missed. 💐💙

Art, Laughter, and New Friendships 🎨💛

This week, students from the Pennsbury School District joined our Memory Care residents for a special art session—adding creativity and a whole lot of heart to our day! They're teaming up on a beautiful piece that will be featured at the Middletown Grange Fair (August 13-17). We love watching these connections blossom! 🥰✨

A Granddaughter’s Gift, A Grandfather’s Smile 💜

Victoria Toth, a member of Sandy Run Unit Troop 2027, recently completed her Girl Scout Silver Award project by creating 20 sensory blankets with removable activity pads for residents of Pickering Manor. Inspired by her beloved Grandpop, Don Cugine, Victoria lovingly handcrafted each blanket to provide comfort and engagement for those living with memory loss.

Last month, she had the special opportunity to present one of the blankets to her Grandpop during a heartfelt visit—a beautiful moment now treasured in both photo and memory.

We are deeply grateful for Victoria’s compassion and the lasting legacy of love she has shared with our community (and her Grandpop). 💜

Before the school year came to a close, we had the joy of welcoming the amazing students from Goodnoe Elementary School — and they truly brought sunshine to our seniors!

🌟 The 4th grade music students sang fun carnival tunes and amazed us all by naming all 50 states — by heart!
🎭 The talented 5th grade theater students performed a scene from Oliver! and absolutely stole the show.
🎶 And the Goodnoe choir filled our halls with music and smiles that still linger.

Goodnoe has long been a bright part of our intergenerational connections — from Halloween parades and holiday cards to musical visits like these. We’re so grateful for the joy, energy, and kindness these students bring to our community. What a perfect way to dive into the summer! 💚💙
