Season 1 of Crown Straightening Sessions will officially come to a close, and we are so incredibly proud of the work we did together during these episodes. While we are temporarily pausing new releases to prepare for an even more impactful Season 2, our journey of self-mastery and collective healing doesn't stop here.

In the meantime, we invite you to:
1. Review the Tape: Go back and re-listen to your favorite episodes from Season 1 to anchor those lessons in your daily life.
2. Shape the Future: Do you have a specific topic or challenge you want us to cover in Season 2? We want to meet you where you are, so please reach out and let us know.
3. Stay Connected: Keep enjoying the daily inspiration, visual guides, and free toolkits we continue to create here at Be True Counseling.

Taking a break isn't a stop—it's a strategic pause to ensure we keep our center bright and return with a full vessel.

Thank you for being part of this community. We can’t wait to share what’s next! 🥂👑

Happy Black History Month: Moving from Labor to Legacy 🤎✨

This year marks a monumental milestone: the 100th Anniversary of Black History Month. For many high-achieving Black women, this month can often feel like "Labor"—the pressure to perform and represent the culture at 1000%. But at Be True, we believe that Legacy is not a chore; it is an anchor.

Just like the "Melanin Paradox" we’ve discussed—where our skin needs more sunlight to regulate our mood—our spirits need the "sunlight" of our history to stay grounded. Remembering our history is a radical act of self-mastery that reminds us:
- Tending to Your Roots: Your history provides the underground strength needed for your bloom.
- Rest is a Strategy: Our ancestors found moments of stillness to sustain the movement; your rest is a win for the culture.
- Protect Your Peace: You don’t have to carry the weight of a 100-year legacy on your shoulders today.

Let’s keep our crowns straight and our roots deep as we celebrate this centennial.

You don’t have to carry it all alone. 🤍✨

We often feel the pressure to keep the treadmill moving, even when we’re running on empty. But here is your gentle reminder for today: it’s okay to not be okay. You are allowed to pause, you are allowed to ask for help, and you are allowed to put yourself first.

Taking a break isn't a sign of weakness—it’s an act of self-mastery that ensures you can return to your life with a full vessel. You matter, and your peace is worth the protection. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, know that reaching out is the first step toward straightening your crown.

In a world full of curated highlight reels and filtered success, it is so incredibly easy to fall into the comparison trap.

But here is the memo you need to keep on your heart today: Never compare yourself to others. Your worth is inherent and completely independent of anyone else’s timeline or public stage. When we spend our energy measuring our "behind-the-scenes" against someone else's highlight reel, we lose focus on our own center and drain our social battery.

True self-mastery is about honoring your own pace and recognizing that "one step at a time" is the only way to build a life that feels as good as it looks. So take a breath, mute the noise that makes you feel "less than," and remember that you are worth the grace it takes to grow at your own speed.

Today, we honor the legacy of Phillis Wheatley—a woman who used her internal authority to define her own narrative, even while facing the physical chains of enslavement. After seeing her story brought to life at the Quintessence Theater, I was moved by how she reclaimed her power through poetry.

At Be True, we call this Authentic Voice. It is the radical act of refusing to be "small" and instead choosing to be the fierce editor of your own mind. Like Wheatley, we must use our internal worth to strike through the lies of worthlessness that systemic pressure tries to tell us.

How to channel your inner Wheatley today:
📖 Own Your Story: Use your voice to define who you are, independent of public opinion.
👑 Straighten Your Crown: Stand tall in your resilience and acknowledge your inherent worth.
🛡️ Protect Your Peace: Remember that your private self—your "Sun"—is yours alone to guard.

We often spend so much time overthinking the "what-ifs" that we forget one simple truth: You automatically lose the chances you don’t take.

In our high-pressure world, it’s easy to get caught in a loop of responsibilities and forget to make space for joy. But true self-mastery is about more than just managing stress—it’s about intentionally choosing to do more of what you love.

Stop waiting for the "perfect" time. The perfect time is when you decide you're worth the effort.

Today, we celebrate Phillis Wheatley, the first African American poet to be published. She was sold into slavery at the age of 6-7, and her owners allowed her to learn to read, write, and become a poet. She was here, she created and we are all better for it.

We see you. You’re managing the home, leading the boardroom, and carrying the emotional labor for everyone else. But willpower is a finite muscle; it tires out. If you’re tired of feeling like you're "born late" or constantly losing your keys, it’s time to decode your Habit Loops.

In our latest blog, we’re breaking down the science of change:
- The Cue: Identifying what actually triggers your routines.
- The Crave: Understanding the internal change you’re actually looking for (Peace? Silence? Relief?).
- The Response: Building the simple, 2-minute version of the habit you want.
- The Reward: Closing the loop so your brain says, "Let’s do that again."

Habits aren't just about tidying up; they are about healing the part of you that worries you aren't "enough". You are worth a system that supports your peace.

Sometimes, the greatest act of self-mastery is giving yourself a permission slip to change. Whether you need to switch directions, take a necessary break, or shed an old version of yourself that no longer fits, know that you have the right to evolve.

At Be True, we believe that straightening your crown often requires letting go of the things that feel heavy.

You are worth the grace it takes to grow. 🛡️👑

01/26/2026

Often, we try to gain power and control by tackling the "really big" things in our lives. But this January, we are shifting our focus to the power of the small stuff—like simply knowing exactly where you put your keys.

It might seem minor, but automating small habits is a powerful tool for reducing daily anxiety and gaining control over your morning. When we take care of the "little things," we create space to handle the big ones with a full vessel.

This month, we are exploring:
🧠 How micro-habits soothe the nervous system.
🛡️ Using "Intentional Action" to automate your daily peace.
🔑 Reclaiming your time by removing small stressors.

Remember: Perfection isn't the goal, but intentionality is. You are worth the effort it takes to make your day run smoother.

In a world that constantly demands our output, it’s easy to forget that taking care of your mental health isn’t a luxury—it matters deeply. Whether you are just beginning your journey or you’re navigating the long road of recovery, remember: "One step at a time, you'll get there!"

Nurturing your mental well-being allows your "center" to bloom, even in seasons of high-stakes stress. Don’t let the treadmill of perfectionism drain your battery; instead, choose the intentional, small steps that lead to lasting peace.

Today’s Gentle Reminder:
🌸 Be patient with your progress.
🌸 Prioritize your mental wellness as your greatest asset.
🌸 Remember: You are worth the care it takes to heal.

In a world that demands instant results and "high-speed" success, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by how far you still have to go. But remember: "One step at a time, you'll get there!"

True self-mastery isn't about leaping to the finish line; it’s about the intentional, steady climb toward alignment. Whether you are working on setting new boundaries or "Reviewing the Tape" from a difficult season, every small effort counts toward your growth.

Be patient with your process. You are worth the time it takes to build a life you love. 🛡
