This weekend’s prenatal yoga class will focus on the third chakra, Manipura. This energetic center, mapping on the upper abdomen in the physical body, is all about getting our energy moving and metabolizing fear into authentic confidence. The antidote to anxiety is action, which includes naming our fears and moving them out of the body in a space where we feel heard and held. This class will be that container for you! As always, invitations to experience ease and relaxation are interwoven throughout.

This evening at 6pm candlelight yoga we are moving upward from the root to nourish the second, or “sacral” chakra, Svadhisthana.

Translations of this include “The dwelling place of the self”, “the abode of the goddess”, or simply “sweetness”. Expect fluid movements - evoking the associated water💧 element - and an invitation to connect to pleasure and joy through creative expression. As always, we sink into cozy, candlelit🕯️ relaxation to close practice. To celebrate sweetness and the connection of Svadisthana chakra to the sense of taste, a little treat will await you upon awakening from savasana 🧡

This practice is specially crafted to support mamas and mamas-to-be 🤰🏻🧑‍🧒

I am thankful to *not* be traveling this holiday and to be able offer this special pop-up candlelight yoga practice to open our hearts to gratitude and authentic connection to ourselves, other beings and the earth during the holidays.

This 75-minute practice allows for a nourishing guided meditation as you rest in the glow of candlelight after a calming movement and breath practice. Appropriate for pregnancy and postpartum; all (adults) are welcome!
Self-selected sliding scale, $20-30 suggested; no-one turned away.

The outdoor Baby & Me Yoga crew had the opportunity to ask their burning infant care and sleep questions today, as we hosted special guest Ria Savoy . Ria is a local doula, newborn care specialist and certified sleep consultant with a passion for helping families with infants get the support and info they need. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise, Ria!

Our Moonlight Movie screening is ON for tonight! Come join us at for a free screening of WICKED. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the cooler temps with a family-friendly film under the stars.

The movie starts about 8:30pm (sunset), but join us beforehand for family yoga at 7:30pm with .moon . Water ice & soft pretzels will be available for purchase; feel free to byo snacks & drinks too.

INTRO POST!!!
It seems like a bunch of new folks have found my little corner of the internet this week, so I think it’s time for a (re-) introduction!

👋 Hey, I’m Sarah and I’m the founder of Surya Moon Yoga. Surya means “sun” in Sanskrit; I chose this name for my business because it reflects one of the foundational principles of my teaching philosophy: each of us embodies both solar ☀️ and lunar 🌙 attributes, and through our yoga practice we seek to balance these complementary energies.

A little more about me and my background:
🧘🏻‍♀️Yoga found me at a gym in Fairmount, Philadelphia over 20 years ago (RIP LifeSport!). After a brief foray into Ashtanga I found my groove with Vinyasa.

👩🏻‍🎓 I studied psychology and bioethics and worked in clinical research at several major universities around the country before earning my MPH in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology at UW.

🤰🏻 My yoga practice and dear teachers in three different states were my lifeline throughout my fertility, pregnancy and postpartum journeys and the depth of that experience is what led me to teach yoga.

📚 I have trained in Vinyasa, Prenatal/Postnatal, Children’s and Trauma-Informed Yoga and Meditation, and am currently studying for my Prenatal and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist certification!

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 I’m a deeply Taurean ♉️ mama to two tweens born 18 months apart (a story for another time!), a cat and two new kittens🐾, and partner to my husband of 18 years.

🫶 Some things that make me happy: Bicycling, booking successful vacations last-minute, goofing around with my kids, seeing friendships form and deepen in my classes, eggplant parm.

🌊 I believe in the healing powers of breath-linked movement, community and nature.

🪴 I welcome you into practice with me just as you are and aim to create an ecosystem within which you come home to yourself again and again.

A new five-week series of Candlelight Pre/Postnatal Yoga starts this Weds, and I would love so much for you to be part of it! ***
These dark, cold winter weeks can dampen our motivation and opportunities for physical movement and mama:mama connection, but joining the series will ensure that you make the time in your week to gather for practice.

Expect slow-flow and held postures that invite you to attune to your body’s intuition, nourishing pranayama/breathwork, guided meditation to center and clear the mind, and held space to REST. Here are the details:
