As a team, we are very passionate about lowering barriers to mental health treatment. It shouldn’t be a luxury to receive adequate care and to meet with a quality therapist. We know there are many obstacles folks experience to seeing an individual therapist. We also understand that a some of the best work we can do on our healing journey is through work in a group setting. This is why Cat (featured in the video) has decided to open the door for you to join her FREE DBT group. This group will meet virtually and is open to PA residents who meet the criteria. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you might have, as slots are limited. You can reach us at:: 484-441-3379 or spacebetweenthewords@gmail.com

Too often, a neurodivergent person can feel like the world wasn’t made for them. They take this perspective and blame themselves for issues they can’t fix in others, and yet they rarely take credit for their successes. Clinicians, people with ADHD, and their family may struggle to understand this disorder beyond the diagnostic criteria. It frustratingly affects many aspects of daily living that don’t seem to count toward or are often neglected in treatment paradigms.

But what if we could think about ADHD in a new context?

ADHD is far more complex than a diagnosis. It’s systemic in the lives of people with ADHD and often misunderstood by those around them. Yet perhaps looking at ADHD with a wider focus, looking through the context of complex PTSD and challenging the assumed origins of the disorder, can help reveal the hidden superpowers.

Tackle an unfair locus of control. Name the strengths of each person with ADHD. Challenge your own ideas about people with ADHD and how to care for them from a place of empathy.
Then, let’s work on changing the world together.

A question that might help you to consider before you gather with family this year: What part of the holiday gathering causes the most stress for you? Is it awkward small talk, alcohol use in the family, issues with food, etc. Increase your awareness regarding which parts of this experience trigger you the most, so that you can develop a plan.

We do this all to balance our emotional state with the things in our control. We aren’t suppressing our emotions, just riding the wave with as little turbulence as possible. Remember, we want to be like Teflon, not velcro - let it all slide right off you. You don’t become what you choose not to absorb.

Often, those of us who experience tremendous guilt feelings for saying “no” and setting boundaries are the children of narcissists and/or highly critical parents. It is common that we struggle with people pleasing as a means of survival, leaving us more vulnerable to manipulation than most. While we are providing some of our wisdom around managing our challenging family dynamics, we want to remind you that we are here to support you with individual and group therapy offerings. If you’d like to find out more about the services we provide, we’d love to hear from you. You can reach out using the contact form on our website (link in bio).

Trust that we understand and can empathize with the overwhelm you might be feeling going into the holidays this year. We sat down with our clinicians to have them shed light on some helpful insights into how we can all better manage complex family dynamics around our increased time with family during this season.

We will be offering a FREE online DBT group starting in January for Pennsylvania residents. While DBT has commonly been thought to only help folks with a BPD (Borderline) diagnosis, as Cat describes here, DBT skills are really for everyone. If you are struggling to live a life that is in alignment with your values and goals, if you’re regularly feeling overwhelmed and dysregulated, if you still haven’t figured out how to manage your symptoms or triggers surrounding your trauma, this group is most certainly for you.

If you are interested in learning more about joining Cat for this offering, don’t hesitate to reach out via phone: 484-441-3379 - email: spacebetweenthewords@gmail.com or - the contact form on our website (link in bio).

We’re so happy to have joined the Chamber with out virtual therapy practice!

Let's welcome Space Between the Words Virtual Therapy to the Delco Chamber!
From Spacebetweenthewords - "Trauma can affect every area of life, even when we aren't aware that our pain comes from trauma. At Space Between the Words, we help to understand a person wholly to better treat the root cause of these issues rather than the symptoms alone. We want to understand people as they are and help them become the best versions of themselves. We offer many different skill sets when it comes to modalities, but the bottom line is that we meet people where they are at and adjust the jargon to meet the need of the moment. Finding a therapist is hard. We want to make it easier by offering virtual therapy to whoever we can in the state of PA."

This feels like a timely topic going into the holidays. We wanted to be more intentional about opening up the conversation around going “no contact” with parents or other family members. One of the most significant barriers we can face in making this decision is the fear of what collateral damage we might face as a result. We know that what can be seen as a “drastic” boundary is almost always the last resort after adult children spend years attempting to navigate an unhealthy relationship dynamic.

If you need a safe space to unpack a recent decision to go “no contact” or you’re in the space of contemplating whether or not this is the right move to make, we would love to support you along your journey of navigating complex family dynamics. We don’t just bring our clinical training to the table but our lived experiences of having to set similar boundaries ourselves. If you’d like to get in touch with us, please don’t hesitate to utilize our contact form (Link in bio).

EMDR can feel almost magical, not because it’s easy, but because it helps surface things you didn’t even realize you were still holding.

And here’s the part people don’t talk about enough:

EMDR isn’t just about reducing the impact of a traumatic event. It’s also about bringing in something new — safety, calm, connection, self-worth.

Healing isn’t only about removing pain. It’s about replacing it with something your nervous system has been missing.

If you’ve felt stuck, numb, overwhelmed, or exhausted by your past… EMDR can help you finally shift what’s been living underneath.

Cat is currently accepting new clients for EMDR therapy in Pennsylvania.

Therapy isn’t just about talking — it’s about transforming.

The work you do in session is only the beginning. Real growth comes from practicing the skills that help you navigate life outside of therapy, even when it feels uncomfortable at first.

Over time, those small, consistent efforts start to feel natural. That’s where the real change happens.

Cat helps clients build practical tools that create lasting progress — not just insight.

Are you ready to start thriving, not just surviving?

Schedule a free 15-minute consult (link in bio) or call/text 309-573-7891.

It’s not just you — your healing feels like grieving someone who’s still alive.

Letting go of a relationship or setting strict boundaries with a narcissist or deeply critical parent isn’t simple. You’re grieving what you needed, what you hoped for, and what you never received.

It’s okay to feel sadness, anger, guilt, and even relief — sometimes all at once. Healing from this kind of loss is complicated, but it’s also possible.

Therapy can help you hold space for all of it — the pain, the progress, and the peace that starts to grow in between.

Cat is currently accepting new virtual clients in Pennsylvania. Call/text 309-573-7891 to set up a free 15-minute consult or reach out on our website (link in bio)
