Happy Thanksgiving from Anyone Can Move!

This season, we’re grateful for our amazing program participants who show up with energy, resilience, and a commitment to staying healthy and active. Your dedication inspires us every single day.

Thank you to our partners and supporters who help make our classes possible. Together, we’re creating spaces where older adults can move with confidence, build strength, and connect with one another.

Wishing you and your loved ones a warm, healthy, and joyful Thanksgiving! Here’s to gratitude, movement, and community.

When a train moves along the tracks, the first car— with the engine — pulls the other cars along. The same principle relates to any biological or physical experience.

“Entrainment” means the synchronization of organisms to an external rhythm. So when you watch baby ducklings swimming after their mother, all putting the same webbed foot forward at the same time, they are entrained to her movement.

Walking backwards is a real problem in terms of falling because we don’t have eyes in the back of our heads. But in this exercise, entrained together, we move as one. And we’re safe!

This is how we train at Ukemi Project: Mastering the Art of Falling & Recovery at Zhang Sah in Queen Village. Our next session is December 13th. Ukemi Project begins today at Zhang Sah!

The Ukemi Project: Mastering the Art of Falls and Recovery is a creative collaboration with Zhang Sah Martial Arts that bridges the disciplines of martial arts, dance, and adaptive movement to promote confidence, safety, and intergenerational connection through embodied learning.

Mastering ukemi—the Japanese term for “falling technique”—can enhance balance, confidence, and overall mobility, while helping participants feel more in control of everyday movements such as walking, stair-climbing, and recovering from a trip or loss of balance.
