Anyone Can Move director Judith Sachs has had two hip replacements. For Judith, this was a learning experience, and as she worked her body back to its natural moving state, she wanted to offer the same possibilities to others. She now brings her wealth of personal and professional experience into her instruction.

Falling can be scary, but knowing what to do can make all the difference. At Bounce Back, we teach you what you need to know.

A self body scan to check for injuries, then calmly communicating with those around you—ask for patience and support as you gradually get back on your feet. Avoid being pulled by your arm to reduce the risk of a second fall. Safety first!

Last week, you saw our “Slither and Crumble” method for learning how to fall safely in Anyone Can Move’s balance and fall recovery program Bounce Back. Once participants understand the technique, we apply it to a real-world scenario.

In this video, you will see Larry trip on a ledge, fall to his side, and roll out of the fall, mitigating damage withstood from the accident. Falls are never 100% preventable, and practicing fall scenarios in a safe environment like this can be the difference between a minor and major injury in the event of a fall in real life.

Learning to Fall with Confidence: In this video, Bounce Back instructor Judith Sachs teaches participants to ‘slither and crumble’ — a gentle, controlled way to slide down a wall and lower one’s self to the ground with minimal impact.

You cannot 100% prevent a fall. In Bounce Back, we give you the tools and confidence to recover from a fall safely and reduce the risk of injury.

Step Back to Move Forward!

As we age, it is so important to challenge our balance, coordination, and body awareness by walking backwards — building strength, stability, and positional awareness.

By relying less on our eyes and more on proprioception (the body's sense of position and movement), we train our brains and bodies to react better in unexpected situations — like a stumble or fall.
