Repost .move.change DOULA WISDOM  STARTS TODAY! So thrilled to see share doula wisdom here!

In celebration of the powerful and transformative postpartum experience, the Speak! Move! Change! Collective is excited to share the wisdom of our community to empower YOU to help postpartum families in your community to thrive.

Today’s tips come from Theresa Lasbrey Peters, birth and postpartum doula and Certified Lactation Counselor from the Bronx in NYC.

➡️ Swipe through the graphics for Theresa’s top tips! More details below.

📣 In her own words:
“How you birth is how you live. How you give birth will impact generations. Birth is more than just getting the baby out of your body. The process and choices you make before, during, and after childbirth affect you and your child for years to come. For instance, those choices can impact your ability and desire to feed from your body. Most people have an abstract sense of the benefit to baby to breastfeed but never grasp that doing so protects your child from ailments in adulthood like bladder cancer. They are never connected to how this biological act will protect the birthing person from diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, and so much more. It is crucial to learn and make informed choices every step of the way. Your pregnancy isn’t a runaway train. No matter what happens, you always have a say in your care. You are the conductor. You may not always know the destination. You just have to trust that you and your body will get you there.”

🔗 Theresa is the founder of Nnenna Birth, a full spectrum birth service for your needs from conception to birth to postpartum and beyond. Reaching back to her place of birth, Nigeria, Theresa chose “Nnenna” from her mother tongue, Igbo. “Nne” means  “mother” and “nna” means “father”. Nnenna Birth serves the mother, the father, and every expression of parent in between.

Repost from

CW: Maternal death

Say their name every time. Tenisha Evans.

Tenisha’s grieving mother openly shares that she believes her healthy 25 year old daughter was wronged by St. John’s Hospital in Queens and is calling for others to come forward to share their experiences there as an act of support.

Tenisha leaves behind twin infants now in the care of her mom. **I’m hoping to update this post with info on how to send monetary support to this family. Please stay tuned.***

This impacts us all, at every level of community. These are humans. Loved ones. Contributors to our communities.

As a new parent sometimes it is hard to remember to prioritize your mental health. Here are some easy ways has come up with for herself to help maintain her mental health as a new mom.

There are many therapists you can talk to who specifically focus on pregnancy and postpartum. Remember postpartum depression and anxiety is very treatable. Telling someone is the first step to finding the help you need to feel better
