Not a ton of progress on my part, but my new landlords have been great so far. This evening I got a call from A/c and Plumbing Doctors. I immediately regretted answering the phone - I normally wouldn't answer an unknown number but have been answering them all day since Rascal was under anesthesia for a dental cleaning. Turns out, my landlords have them come once a year to do a tune-up and they're calling me to schedule the appointment. So many levels on which this would never have happened at my old place. Feeling (always cautiously) optimistic about this one 😁

I hate moving. All I wanted was some stability, so being forced out of my home by a freak storm and the kept out for 3 full weeks due to the neglect and apathy of Cushman and Wakefield, was exhausting and overwhelming on top of the trauma and grief of the actual event.

Thankfully, I had very good renters insurance with Lemonade. None of the neighbors I've spoken with did, and they also had battle the complete lack of empathy or any acknowledgement from our landlords that our HOMES - where we LIVE - were destroyed, and we were prohibited from collecting our possessions for 3 full weeks. The fu***rs even changed all the locks.

The only helpful people were Tempe Building Safety and the contractor handling the remediation. I still would not have gotten in yesterday had I not sat around for 3 hours, threatened to ugly cry at the contractor, and followed the building safety guys around. We had to go in and out through the back windows because the front still wasn't safe. Then around 3pm we got an hour to use the front door.

My moving crew (for which Lemonade will pay) was awesome about the window situation and they got a lot more out that way than I thought possible. But they didn't speak much English and ended up just throwing my stuff into unlabeled boxes. So now I'm on a treasure hunt in my new apartment that barely has space to walk through.

Fingers crossed it only gets better from here. On the bright side (pun intended) all that light in my living room is coming from the skylight!

Figured I'd do a mass update.

We still don't know if/when we'll be allowed back in to get our stuff. My claims rep thinks it will be a (near?) total loss but without confirmation we're just in a holding pattern. Thankfully I have Loss of Use coverage so they advanced me some cash for lodging/food. I just requested an advance for clothing since I didn't have much with me.

I've been running around constantly trying to get an answer from the building, thrifting clothing (extremely time consuming), buying groceries, replacing meds from multiple doctors and pharmacies, finding lodging that is affordable, allows dogs, and has a decent workspace for me (because when you work from home and your home gets destroyed, you lose your office too).

I am so exhausted and distracted I haven't been able to work, which is not helping me financially, which is of course adding to the stress and distraction. After the hysterectomy earlier this year, a broken tooth in June without dental coverage, etc etc, I was already pretty strapped, so even my low $500 deductible was not laying around.

I'm told I'm handing it pretty well, but it's definitely moment to moment.

Home sweet home. 🤢
Thankfully I don't think anyone was hurt, but it may be a while before we have homes to go back to. Just an insane microburst that pulled all these trees out of the soil and threw them into buildings.

Introducing the saddest. boi. ever. Forced to play all day at doggy day care, fed as soon as he got home.... But the weight of his disappointment overshadows the entire day. I did not share my dinner with him. Will he ever recover? There's just no way to know.

Join me for FREE YOGA tomorrow at 10am at National Museum of Wildlife Art 🙏 Come early to make sure you get a good spot & have time to use the facilities 🙂 (restrooms are a bit of a trek from the new location)

Thursdays in July & August

Top Jackson Hole yoga instructors conduct weekly summer classes outside on the Sculpture Trail. New this year, we have relocated yoga to the SOUTH trail. As you enter the Museum, take a left to park in the south lot, rather than driving up to the Museum entrance on the right. Participants will feel inspired doing Sun Salutations and Downward Dogs as they look across the grand vista of the National Elk Refuge. Join us in connecting with two art forms—visual art inspired by artists over the centuries, and the art of yoga, ensuring healthy mind, body, and spirit. All levels welcome. Free.

*Please bring your own mat!
