The Arizona Myeloma Network (AZMN) and the Cancer Caregivers of America partnered with Cancer Support Community Arizona, CSCAZ City of Hope and offered an amazing FREE seminar, the first in a series, both in person and online, for those living with cancer and those’ who are caring for a loved one with cancer.
This unique program was designed to assist all cancer caregivers with the challenging task of caring for a cancer patient and helping them navigate the complicated medical system. It also helps the caregiver and other family members, manage the emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis, and reduce their stress and overcome the challenges associated with cancer caregiving.
The January 2025 program included esteemed presenters from AzMN, Cancer Support Community, CSCAZ, Pfizer, City of Hope, AZBio, and AZMN. Barbara Kavanagh, Founder & CEO of AZMN© & Author of the Cancer Caregivers Education Program, CCEP©, provided an overview of the program. She then introduced, Mary Hald, the Clinical Director at Cancer Support Community, CSCAZ, who described their broad range of support and activity programs.
Joan Koerber Walker, President and CEO, Arizona Bioindustry Association, Azbio, described the exciting new cancer research happening in Arizona, and also Nationally. Dr. Amit Kulkarni from City of Hope, COH presented amazing statistics on cancer, treatments, and ongoing research. Kerri Hale, Regional Director, discussed Pfizer’s latest drug development outcomes and offered insight into future strides in early detection,cancer prevention, and new treatments. The seminar closed with a panel of the cancer caregivers sharing their own experiences and suggestions for future programs.The day was full of hope, information, and resources.
AZMN plans on hosting quarterly in-person and zoom seminars throughout 2025 and is seeking, seminar hosts, donations and sponsorships to help keep them free for cancer patients and their caregivers. And, the online CCEP, is being offered for FREE through March 31st, in Honor of Jack Kavanagh, Co- Founder of AzMN and 33 year myeloma survivor.
