🏡 6 At-Home Speech Therapy Tips for Parents
1. Narrate Your Day
Talk through daily routines like getting dressed, making lunch, or driving. Label objects, actions, and emotions to naturally boost vocabulary and language.
2. Pause for Power
After asking a question or making a comment, pause and wait—at least 5–10 seconds. Giving your child time to process and respond encourages more meaningful communication.
3. Follow Their Lead
Join in your child’s play and let them take the lead. Imitate their actions and expand on what they say using simple, clear language.
4. Use Repetition
Kids learn through repetition! Repeat key words, phrases, and routines daily to build confidence and understanding over time.
5. Celebrate All Communication
Whether it’s a word, gesture, AAC selection, or even eye contact—acknowledge and celebrate every attempt your child makes to connect with you.
6. Read with Purpose
Slow down, ask questions, and label pictures while reading. Don’t worry about finishing the book—focus on interaction, not perfection!
