✨ Meet the Provider Monday ✨

Today we’re excited to feature Dr. Kayla Koren — one of our newer Pelvic Docs, but already a total rockstar! 🌟

Kayla has been with us for almost half a year, and in that short time, she’s made a BIG impact. Her patients love her thoughtful care, and our team is better with her on it. 💛👏

✨Meet the Team Mondays ✨

Every Monday, we’re pulling back the curtain and introducing you to a member of our incredible Pelvic Docs crew. 💪🏽🌸

Whether you’re brand new or have been hanging with us for a while, this is your chance to get to know the amazing humans behind the care. We’re sharing a fun, doodle-style intro and some quick facts to help you connect. 🧠✨

Today we’re kicking things off with Dr. Stephanie Werkau — and honestly, we’d be lost without her. Stephanie has been with The Pelvic Docs for some time now, and she’s not only an amazing provider, but also an incredible teammate who brings heart, humor, and expertise to everything she does. 💛

Now it’s your turn — we want to hear from YOU! Drop a comment and share your passion, what brings you joy, or your ideal day off. Let’s grow this community with real connection. 👇

10 years ago, I graduated PT school and stepped into a world that would change me forever. ❤️

I was so navie, over-caffeinated (no change there) ☕️, and armed with a fresh set of Therabands haha 🎓🏋️‍♀️

Since then, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside thousands of patients, growing a clinic I love, and learning more than I could’ve imagined.

Here are 10 things I’ve learned in 10 years as a physical therapist (swipe ➡️)...

👀 And yes—please enjoy the throwback photos from PT school and early career life. We all had that kinesiology tape phase and way too many polos. 😅

To every patient, mentor, colleague, and friend along the way—thank you for being part of this journey. 💛

Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and lift others up.

💜 Clinic Update: What’s Changing & What It Means For You

We’re committed to always keeping you informed and supported. Here are three important updates from The Pelvic Docs:

1️⃣ Casa Grande – We’re Expanding!
We’re thrilled to begin seeing a limited number of patients in our Casa Grande office starting June 2025. Dr. Calo will be leading care in this new location, and we’d love to see you there! Scheduling link is in our bio 💻

2️⃣ We Will No Longer Accept UnitedHealthcare
This decision was not made lightly. Unfortunately, UHC has not met the standards we believe our patients (and providers) deserve. Current UHC patients will continue care through the end of their plan of care. We also offer self-pay options for those who wish to continue beyond that point. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions 💬

3️⃣ Central Phoenix Office Is Closing May 30th
This one is tough—we’ve loved our Central Phoenix space and all the memories made over the last decade. But due to staffing and support needs, it’s time to shift. We’re excited about what’s next and the stronger community we’ll build because of it. Patients are welcome to continue care at our Motherhood co-location or Gilbert clinic.

We’re here for you—if you have any questions, DM us or email us at hello@thepelvicdocs.com 💌

🚨 “KEGELS ARE BAD” 🚨 …but are they really? Or is social media just feeding us fear?

Let’s set the record straight 👇🏼

Pelvic floor muscle training (yep, including kegels) has strong research supporting its benefits for all populations—postpartum, menopause, prolapse, athletes, and beyond.

🔬 Research-backed benefits:
✅ Postpartum recovery – Helps improve muscle function and support healing [(BO et al., 2021)]
✅ Menopause & aging – Reduces urinary incontinence and maintains strength [(Dumoulin et al., 2018)]
✅ Pelvic organ prolapse – Can improve symptoms and prevent worsening [(Hagen & Stark, 2011)]
✅ Athletic performance – Supports core stability and pressure management

So, are kegels bad? No. But should they be the only thing you do? Also no.

🏋🏽‍♀️ Pelvic health requires a full-body approach. Strength, mobility, breathwork, and functional movement all matter.

What we are sick of? Fear-mongering and blanket statements that confuse people and keep them from helpful exercises.

Instead of asking, “Are kegels bad?” Let’s ask, “Are they appropriate for YOU?” (Because that’s what actually matters!)

💬 Thoughts? Have you been told to fear kegels? Let’s talk 👇🏼.
