I've learned from personal experience that what we put in & on our bodies has a dramatic impact on our health & quality of life. I decided to share my experiences on my blog & soon after decided to pursue a career in the health & wellness industry. it's been a while! 👋 -

I’ve been off the grid for a few years (& what a wild few years it’s been!), & I’ve spent all of 2021 being pregnant! Pregnancy has brought a lot of things to the forefront of my mind—healthy living being a big one—& so I thought it was about time to send out a newsletter :D

Blue tansy is a potent essential oil that comes from a little yellow Moroccan flower, & it’s not just here to smell lovely & look pretty (though it is great at both). Blue tansy is quickly becoming a superstar staple in skincare, but why? What are the Benefits of Blue Tansy? Blue tansy - or Tanacetum annuum, if you wanna get fancy - gets its bright blue hue as the yellow flowers are steam distilled into oil. [ 1,399 more word ]

Meal prep doesn’t have to be hard work, y’all! 🥕

You know, every once in a while I still get hung up on meal prep, even as someone who’s been eating a mostly-paleo diet for nearly three years. Still, I HAVE to meal prep. I work a full-time job; ain’t nobody got time for cooking every night in my house. 🥑

This weekend I was pondering what to make & I realized I just needed to go back to basics! Veggie + carby veggie + fatty protein = done. So I made a bunch of burger patties (these are 100% grass-fed & -finished which is important when you’re dealing with fattier cuts of meat since toxins are stored in fat cells), roasted green beans, & roasted butternut squash. I seasoned everything super simply: + white pepper + garlic powder. I’ve been throwing it all on top of a butter lettuce & radicchio mix that you can get premade at . Not much fuss, not much muss. I was in & out of the kitchen pretty quickly so I could spend the rest of my day writing up a storm, & I had a week’s worth of healthy lunches done. Woot freakin’ woot. 🥕

This picture has a bit of leftover quinoa + kidney bean pilaf that I made last week. I’ve been trying my hand at some non-paleo reintroductions lately but honestly I don’t think my gut likes it all that much. Ah well, it was tasty while it lasted, & you never know if you don’t try! 🥑

So I wrote this blog post a few weeks ago & forgot to post about it on IG. Oops. 📚

ANYWAY. One of my goals this year is to do more things that make me happy, & that’s how the Bibliophile’s Month in Review was born. I’ve always loved books, & I figured if I was going to read a bunch of books this year I might as well take you on the journey with me! I may have an English degree, but this isn’t hardcore literary analysis. It’s just a nerd (ie me) having fun. SO if book reviews are your thing, come read how my January went. You can find this post on the homepage at glutenfreeocd.com. (The next post in the series will likely be February + March combined since I spent the majority of last month writing instead of reading.) 📚

Why am I sharing this with you? Having hobbies is an essential part of wellness, I think. I’ve made the mistake before of obsessing over my health, & while I learned a ton of good information during those periods of my life, it’s not a sustainable state of being. What I’m trying to say is this: Stressing over our health will only contribute to the health issue in question. Learn what you need to learn, apply it, & then live your life with your newfound tools. Make sense? 📚

What’s something you enjoy that you’d like to do more of? Let me know down below! 👇🏼

Ah, armpits. They’re a necessary part of the body, but sometimes they just stink. It’s easy enough to swipe our pits with some deodorant before we leave the house, but is that causing more harm than good? Is deodorant toxic? Now, I’m not into fear-mongering. What I am into is reducing our toxic load where we can so that we can have healthier lives. [ 1,286 more word ]

Is deodorant toxic? It's not quite that simple, but most deodorants on the market are made with known toxic ingredients. When I first started switching out my personal care products for safer options, deodorant was actually one of the first things I changed because it’s applied so close to the bre...

Three words - FREE 👏🏼 Cleansing 👏🏼 Balm! 👏🏼

This stuff is one of my absolute favorite safer skincare products. It’s a multi-tasker (cleanser, makeup remover, moisturizer), but I must say I only use it one way - as an overnight mask! 🌼

There’s so much goodness in this balm (I’ve been known to refer to it as unicorn tears). With all its healthy fats, it’s great for hydrating dry skin (our skin loves fats as much as the rest of our body does!). It also has vitamin C to help brighten up the complexion. 🌼

You can get a full-size Cleansing Balm for free when you place an order of $175 or more. ($70 value. Woot!) 🌼

What we look like on the outside doesn’t always reflect what’s going on inside. >>

I decided to jump on this 10 year challenge bandwagon to talk about something incredibly important. 🌼

The 1st & 3rd photos are me today. Let’s talk about photo #2 first. 🌼

On the outside, I look like what our society would probably deem “hot.” On the inside, I was an absolute wreck. 🌼

I still thought I needed to lose weight. I wasn’t eating enough food. I thought the less calories I ate, the better. I was always angry because I was always hungry, but God forbid I went over 1200 calories in a day or something equally ridiculous. Something was always setting me off. My hormones were an absolute mess; I was miserable 2-3 weeks out of the month. My menstrual cycle would completely stop periodically because I didn’t have enough fat on my body to function like a healthy female. My s*x drive eventually fizzled out. My OCD & anxiety ran amok. I was depressed. I’d unknowingly triggered my autoimmunity by getting toxic breast implants because I just couldn’t be happy with what I had. I was always trying to “fix” my body into some sort of ideal that I just. Couldn’t. Reach. Nothing was ever good enough. 🌼

I existed in this state for about 8 or so years before I finally woke the f**k up. 🌼

These days, I may be 40 pounds heavier, but I am so much healthier. This is what our society doesn’t seem to understand. That “thin” & “healthy” are not synonymous with each other. You can’t look at the description I just gave of what my life used to be & tell me I was healthy because of the way I looked. 🌼

A lot of things have helped me, but I think the core of my health rests on how I’ve changed my own personal environment. I eat food now, & a decent amount of it. Fat is my friend. Gluten is not. I had my implants removed nearly two years ago. I’ve reduced the toxins in our home & personal care products. It’s all these little things coming together to produce a healthier human being. 🌼

I’ve rambled, I think. The point is that we can be healthy at many sizes, & we can be unhealthy at many sizes. Our size does not necessarily dictate health, & honestly our body knows what’s best for it. 🌼
