Fred’s Westside Pharmacy and GC Hobby gchobbyshop will be closed September, 1st 2025 in honor of the Labor Day holiday. We will return to our normal hours on Tuesday.

Express Scripts is the PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) for Tricare insurance. PBM's administer drug coverage formularies for insurance companies. They are reimbursing themselves close to $400 for generic Lexapro. This is something we charge $8.00 for on a 30-day supply and $22.00 on a 90-day supply on our discount plan for uninsured patients.

I lose money on approximately 9 of 10 scripts we process to Tricare, but they can afford to pay themselves $400 for something that is profitable for me at our discount prices. PBM's are some of the largest and most profitable corporations in America and they do it by using tax payer money to reimburse themselves at astronomically high rates while passing on little to no savings for the patient and reimbursing other pharmacies at extremely low rates.

This is one medication on one insurance plan. Now extrapolate that to the rest of the country. It happens every single day on millions of prescriptions nationwide. There is no reason whatsoever that this should be happening. It is nothing but theft of the highest order. It will never change unless we the people demand it from our politicians to make this sort of business practice outlawed.

I have often times considered discontinuing my contract with Tricare due to how terrible their reimbursements are, but we do so few prescriptions with them it isn't worth it to bother. This is obviously a graphic for a different state, but I would assume they are doing the same thing all over. Your insurance carrier is rarely the one in charge of administering your drug plan. They contract it out to PBM's (Pharmacy Benefit Managers) like Express Scripts and Caremark who routinely reimburse themselves and/or pharmacies they are affiliated with more than pharmacies like us. Must be nice.
