As the year closes out, I try to take some time to reflect. So many lessons still being taught and learned. Honestly, I think the thing I am most thankful for consistently is that some people do not exist in my life anymore. I refuse to sugar coat that. I don't miss being taken for granted and treated poorly. I don't miss being degraded by their family. It's no surprise that some folks act so terrible. If they are raised by such terrible role models, it's no wonder they turned out to be a complete train wreck.

I'm thankful that those jerks aren't anywhere near my circle. I feel like the people in my personal life truly respect me and care about me. They don't lie to me. I don't receive used vinyl table clothes from a bomb shelter basement as a Christmas gift anymore. I don't receive tools that are completely useless to me simply because HE liked them. The holidays are now filled with appreciation and effort.

I have healed past some of this, but obviously not as much as I'd like. It's hard not to remember the maltreatment. I could literally write an entire book about abuse and narcissism. I think what's important is that I continue trying to move past all of it. I try not to get stuck in that place. What helps is being with people who truly care about me. It's something I'm not used to, and at one point early on, I questioned whether I even deserved it. I do. We all do. We deserve to be heard and seen.

I hope anyone out there who might be struggling can find peace and self-love in this upcoming cycle. Wishing you all the best.

I feel like I have epically failed posting for the month of thanks, but no one really reads the posts on this page. Still, I want to be clear that I am incredibly thankful for all of the folks who do follow me. Most of all, I am thankful for my family and friends.

So many people are hurting in this world, and any day that we have on this planet gives us the opportunity to make a difference. Smile at someone you don't know. You have no clue what others might be going through. A kind gesture can be the difference between life and death.
