FirstHealth delivers more than 2,200 babies each year, and we are committed to making sure they thrive. Our Labor & Deliver team is launching a new Safe Sleep Initiative to raise awareness about how to put babies to sleep safely and reduce the number of deaths from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This effort is funded in part by The Foundation of FirstHealth and Charlie’s Kids.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Kelly Cason Driver to the care team in Clarke NICU at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Dr. Driver earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012 and completed a pediatrics residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. She also completed a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Florida.

We are very excited to be taking part once again in the NICU Read-a-thon!

Staff, patients and families of Clarke NICU at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital are participating this month in a friendly competition between NICUs to see who can read to their patients the month. Babies with Books is a student-led early literacy organization that creates and supports NICU reading programs. Neonatologist Laura Valleni, M.D., and Mela Willburn, R.N. (Cat in the Hat!) kicked off our efforts with a reading session with Chantele and her new addition, sweet Bellamy.

ICYMI: Laura Anne Valleni, M.D., MSPH, FAAP, joined our Clarke NICU team earlier this year. Dr. Valleni is double board certified in general pediatrics and neonatology. She received both her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina. She then completed a residency in pediatrics at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
