All children have a tendency to get a little overexcited and rambunctious at times. But for kids with special needs, this can see like it’s MORE than their peers. As a mom of 4, I’m here to tell you ALL kids have tantrums, the difference is in the child. Trouble focusing or sitting still, difficulty managing emotions, completing homework, falling asleep at bed time. All of these common symptoms can get in the way of a normal day for kids with special needs. The worst part is that it may seem like these kids are just behaving badly. They aren’t.

This is one of the things that puzzles me the most about Mason. Prescription medications. Natural remedies, gut health, essential oils. It can be so hard to find what works for you and your family. NONE of those options are wrong if they work for you. And if you’re like us, we have tried it all! Emotional outbursts are a daily occurrence and it can get loud and crazy. I am so glad to have found a combination of things that work for us. We call it masons toolbox. , oils for , oils for thoughts. The best part? He can help himself. He knows what his body needs and can take control over the behavior and .

The next time your child is having a hard time calming down try this Chill Out diffuser recipe:

Don't ever sit in an IEP meeting with people all around you telling YOU what is best for your child. YOU are the most important part of that IEP team because you know your child better than anyone else. It's OK to disagree if you need to. It's OK to reach out to someone outside that room and get help. Just don't feel like you don't know best. You do. And your kid is worth it. Sometimes you just need someone who can help give you the right words to use, to get what your child deserves.

I say this not because I don't have ALL the respect in the world for Special Education professionals. I do! I'm not a teacher or a therapist and I don't work in their positions everyday. Those people are valuable assets to helping your child grow into a good, productive adult and they absolutely deserve more appreciation than I could ever put into words. Seriously. I'd be lost without some of the wonderfully knowledgeable people that have been put into my sons life.

I say this because I have, more than once, questioned MY importance in an IEP meeting. I've been quiet, not confident and agreed to things I didn't always understand or agree with. We've all been there. I'm just telling you, it's OK to be bold. You can disagree and still be respectful. You can ask for time to research and revisit the conversation. You are the parent and the biggest advocate for your child's interests. You may not be a teacher or a therapist and know all the technical things they know. BUT You know your kid. And your kid is worth it. Reach out and schedule your free consultation today so we can help you build a more collaborative team and best support your child.

Yesterday I checked out from social media most of the day to spend time with family. We visited my sister and her new baby. We played at the park. We went for a walk. We read A LOT of books. We visited friends. We played baseball and soccer in the yard. And hide and seek before bed. It was one of the first nice days of the season and I think we took advantage of it all.
Running a business is time consuming. It’s hard and I I love it. But because I love it, I spend a lot of time working. Empowering parents and helping families like mine isn’t the best job in the world though, being a mom to these 4 is. So it was nice to put the Advocacy on hold and soak in these giggles for a day.

We are all struggling at something. Look around you and be the mom who builds another up. It takes a village Mamas! Sometimes we just need a reminder that you are doing a great job.
